  • This game needs balanced for single-player. The time it takes to matchmake and the fact you can’t start matchmaking until you are already face to face with the monster means you will frequently be low on supplies or have lost a life before your comrade will even show up to help.

  • There's potential in Wild Hearts. The building aspects alone add some depth to the exploration and combat aspects of the hunt, while the weapons feel right in a fight. There are many compelling reasons to give this a go: a drip feed of abilities, near-instant multiplayer with cross-play, and permanently affecting a player's instance. The sometimes-finicky building system can be an annoyance, while the lack of kemono variety is a knock, even if more beasts are promised later as free updates.

  • Wild Hearts proved to be a rather enjoyable Monster Hunter clone with an identity of its own. The Karakuri mechanics proved to be interesting and quite satisfying while hunting the game’s gorgeous Kemono. We did feel like the story could have been a bit more interesting, but we didn’t mind that the narrative took the backseat during our monster-hunting excursions. Even though the game is entertaining enough, especially online with friends, we do hope that the many current bugs will get fixed in the near future, as it is currently dragging down the overall experience.

  • Wild Hearts is a fantastic first attempt by Omega Force, as it goes toe-to-toe with an established franchise and gets in a few attacks of its own, and I’m excited to see how the team builds upon this victory, Karakuri-style!

  • All in all, Wild Hearts is an excellent time. With gameplay that’s fun to partake in, and monsters that are fun to hunt, it’s a game worth the hours of grind.

  • There are some genuinely neat ideas here, and its monster designs are a welcome breath of fresh air. Overall, it’s a great game in its own right, but it’s more exciting when you consider it a base to be improved upon with further iterations.

  • WILD HEARTS puts up a valiant effort to capitalize on the success that Monster Hunter has found in the West these past few years, it still leaves a lot to be desired. The most disappointing aspect is how bogged down it is with technical issues that prevent a seamless online co-op experience. A lot of the joy in hunting monsters is being able to do it with friends.

  • Wild Hearts also offers excellent sounds to punctuate its glorious visuals. The soundscape is infused with elements of traditional Japanese music, rousing enough to call anyone to join the hunt. The voice acting is solid for the most part, though a couple of actors go a little overboard on hamminess without much apparent reason. The sounds of battle dig into your gut, with the typical clashing of metal on flesh and the terrible yet relieving shriek that signifies you’ve finished off your prey.

  • Wild Hearts shares a great deal of DNA with those games, but succeeds in feeling fresh, and with a decent story featuring a colorful cast of characters and the looming threat of the imposing, bear-like 'Earthbreaker', this is monster hunting at its finest.

  • Wild Hearts makes online play incredibly easy—both for joining a quick hunt, or for playing alongside a friend and progressing the story and sidequests together, with seamless shared progress. It just works. I wish I could say the same for everything else.
