  • What the Bat? isn’t going to set the VR world on fire with it’s ground-breaking use of VR tech, but it is going to make VR fans looking for a simple, fun game smile and laugh for a few hours. With a barrage of minigames and weirdo mechanics, this game radiates creativity and fun. Just, uh, don’t expect any baseball.

  • Each stage offers up some new idea or gameplay mechanic, keeping the game fresh throughout its short runtime. It's not just hitting things into the distance — you'll go bowling, play fetch with your dog, light a campfire, work at a supermarket, visit a museum, and much more. These bite-sized levels keep the novelty going, as you're compelled to find out where the heck the game will take you next.

  • The graphics are intentionally flat and childlike, and you are truly playing in a make-believe town made up of a toddler’s toys. Even down to a squeaky elephant, that seems to be your chaperone through the entirety of the game. In a world of artistically simple indie games, this still isn’t a looker. It’s just not meant to be.

  • With a positively batty sense of humour, What The Bat? is a thoroughly daft VR successor to What The Golf? and the best baseball game I've played in years – also the only baseball game I've played.

  • What the Bat? embraces its absurdity to tell a surprisingly heartfelt journey of life. Players have baseball bats for hands. But it never stopped them from creating memories with their imaginary elephant in a city built for antics. Levels are also structured as Mr. Bean-esque set pieces. Seemingly normal spots like a bathroom are puzzles. Parking lots are a chess board for ushering cars into spots. Museums suddenly become a batting cage with birds stealing exhibits. What the Bat?’s weird world throws players into enough situations with a brilliant effect.

  • What The Bat? doesn't really do a whole lot to make it an essential experience among the PlayStation VR2 launch window of titles, but if PSVR2 is your first VR headset ever, then you'd only be doing yourself a favour to jump into Triband's hilarious and fun bats-for-hands world.

  • It's true that WHAT THE BAT?'s campaign is memorable, hilarious, and a ton of fun but it's also exceptionally short and can easily be completed within a few gaming sessions. On top of that, there aren't any replay incentives that would have helped extend its value.
