  • As it couldn't be otherwise, graphics are retro and pixelated yet neat and polished. In conclusion, a roguelike dungeon crawler perfectly adapted to mobile platforms: touchscreen control scheme and a more casual gameplay. Highly recommended. • Players who are dyed in the wool gamers who take any challenge in stride and will persevere and will take the time to learn the game will enjoy it. However more causal mobile gamers, such as those who like their freemium city builders and such will find it an impenetrable game. Even fans of Mage Gauntlet may not enjoy Wayward Souls due to its difficulty. Well-made but merciless Wayward Souls is the Dwarf Fortress of mobile gaming and only the player can decide if Wayward Souls is the game for them.

  • The steep difficulty and player progression keep the player coming back for more, and the wealth of content offered by the $5 game rivals downloadable releases on PCs or consoles. It just goes to show that games with bold design and content-rich features can find a home on any platform.

  • Still, there is a lot to enjoy, here, with a Wayward Souls’ compelling, yet minimalist story, atmospheric gameplay, and massive replayability. It isn’t perfect, but for anyone who likes action-RPGs or a worthy challenge, Wayward Souls is a solid choice.

  • Roguelike, roguelike-like, procedural death labyrinth – what you want to call it, Wayward Souls is one of the best examples of the genre you’re going to find on mobile. It’s the kind of game you’ll sit down to play one session of, and the next thing you know you’ve killed the battery on your phone.

  • Stunningly beautiful, jam-packed with replay value and secrets, and loaded with tons of great action, Wayward Souls is an absolute must-have. Seeing everything this game has to offer will take tons of time, but it's time you won't at all mind spending because it's just so downright enjoyable.

  • Everyone loves a good challenge, but for some players, Wayward Souls may be too much. Even for the most hardened of players, this game presents a true test of skill and requires quite a bit of luck as well. It could use some tweaks to the enemies, the rate of spells, and health drops. Still, for those of us that enjoy a challenge, Wayward Souls will provide lots and lots of hours of pain– I mean, fun.

  • Wayward Souls is punishing, but so rewarding and satisfying when success does come. Rocketcat Games have made a roguelike action-RPG that stands up with the best of its genre, mobile or not. This is an absolute must-buy.

  • Wayward Souls is easy enough for anyone to pick up, hard enough to make even the most seasoned players pull out their hair, and a must-play for hack-'n-slash enthusiasts.

  • It's a game that demands attention and precision, that twinkles with brilliant ideas and visual flourishes, confident enough to forge its own path through the roguelike RPG genre. One of the finest action-adventure experiences you can have on any device, let alone mobile, Wayward Souls is an essential purchase.
