  • Way of the Hunter is an entertaining hunting simulator with a message to convey. The story was charming, and the gameplay was engrossing, though at times it felt like the deer had better detection skills than the hunter!

  • Way of the Hunter has interesting and well-balanced hunting mechanics but falls short of providing a really enjoyable next-gen setting. While it's exciting to see so many animals all at once, it's frustrating when they suddenly start darting for cover that appears out of thin air as I go by.

  • Way of the Hunter provides the authenticity you need to probably have the best virtual hunting experience. Still, it also comes with some baggage, such as a story, which the developer could have placed more emphasis on.

  • Way of the Hunter is one of the best hunting simulators, not labelled as a simulator, that I have ever played. Once you move past (or just simply ignore) the story missions that can drag down the experience, you get to a hunting game that offers the right kind of ease and complexity.

  • Way of the Hunter is a great hunting game if you’re looking for an entertaining hunting game. The mix between simulation and arcade feels great and makes the game accessible for many different types of gamers. The story kept us motivated to press on, but it never stood in the way of doing our own thing while roaming freely. Hunting animals is realistic and it does feel awesome pulling off a few perfect kills. While the graphics aren’t next-gen, the game does perform smoothly and there is still a lot of attention to detail. The game’s sound design makes the experience very realistic.

  • If Way of the Hunter's $40 price tag feels too steep for a title with some bugs and balancing issues, or if one prefers games that require a little less patience, this game might not be worth the cost. However, Way of the Hunter has got enough promise to warrant a second look once it has a few major updates under its belt.

  • There are people who will enjoy the dedication to making Way of the Hunter an ultra-realistic hunting simulation. Though I fear those people will instead be spending their days actually hunting. If you play video games to get some immersive feel and still have fun doing that thing you wouldn’t normally do in real life, you might not be as appreciative of the dedication to realism.

  • Way of the Hunter is a deep and immersive hunting sim with beautiful visuals that fans of the genre will love. Unfortunately, its slow-burn gameplay and pacing, combined with the precise shooting mechanics make this game hard to recommend for new players.

  • Like the real thing, Way of the Hunter is a game that rewards patience and persistence. Yet since it doesn’t bog itself down with trying to provide the most realistic experience that’s possible, it’s quite possibly the most accessible hunting game on the market. It’s enjoyable, too, if you’re into this sort of thing, but a lack of polish will pull you out of it from time to time and possibly frustrate.

  • What holds Way of the Hunter back is that most of it doesn’t feel fully realized or polished. Performance is an issue, bugs are an issue, accessibility is an issue and, in many cases, the quality of the game’s systems are an issue. While I suspect things will improve over time, Way of the Hunter is a long way from where my expectations lie.
