Critic Reviews
- The Nintendo Switch version carries a high price, especially in comparison with the free-to-play model that was used on mobile. The microtransactions have been removed entirely though, meaning that you have access to an exhaustive library of tracks without having to worry about spending another penny. With plentiful content in a range of energetic music styles, VOEZ astounds and enchants in equal measure to deliver a rhythm game that deserves your attention.
Alex Seedhouse · Apr 15, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - I’ve been quite honestly blown away by the brilliance of VOEZ. As music rhythm games go it’s one of the best I’ve ever played, up there with the likes of Parappa The Rapper, Hatsune Miku Project DIVA X and Gitaroo Man. It’s a game that I envisage playing for years to come, and if you’ve recently bought a Nintendo Switch I urge you to give it some attention.
Rich · Mar 13, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Like any rhythm game with a truckload of songs it has its highs and lows, but as a whole I really dug the compositions. They range from sweet saccharine J or K-pop to whimsical piano-only songs, to hardcore industrial electronica. Voez is a diamond in the rough, at least as far as the Nintendo Switch eShop is concerned. The system's launch went from zero (or just Zelda) to hero in seconds flat, and as long as you're okay with a lack of a TV mode, Voez is a worthy pickup.
Chris Carter · Mar 03, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - VOEZ is a top-notch music game with high production values, but its music appeals to specific audience fond of anime and Asian pop.
Dan Vlasic · Jun 29, 2016 Reviewed on iOS, AndRead full review - VOEZ is the combination of a beautiful game and a beautiful story. You have to catch the falling notes and follow along with the story at the same time.
Noel Catherine · Jun 28, 2016 Reviewed on - Make no mistake, VOEZ is a rhythm game that’s well worth playing. It’s clever, fun, challenging (even if it can be a bit too challenging at times), and is oddly pretty in its simplicity – and what little illustration artwork there is looks great. But really, it’s all about being fun and having enjoyable music.
Rob Rich · Jun 03, 2016 Reviewed on iOS, AndRead full review - Instead, the game shines because of the way it does the core mechanics so well, and invigorates a stale genre that has been copied and churned out so many times since iOS gaming began in 2008.
Andrew Fretz · Jun 01, 2016 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - I recommend VOEZ to anyone who is into music rhythm games, or just enjoy J-pop and anime-style art in general.
Christine Chan · May 31, 2016 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - VOEZ is one of the best games in the Nintendo Switch’s currently limited lineup, and I can guarantee that if you are a fan of rhythm games, you will like this one. If you are not – definitely give it a shot (on mobile first) anyway, as this may be just the right game to get you hooked.
Kieran Tsang · Aug 26, 2017 Reviewed on Switch - VOEZ plays wonderfully on Nintendo Switch, and offers a premium package where the mobile version required you to buy many songs separately. That might work for you though, if you wanted to keep the cost of entry low. The only slight disappointment with this version, is that you can't play it in docked mode. Sure, that would have been difficult to do given that it's a touch-based game, but it would have been nice to have had a version running that used the right Joycon as a Wiimote. It's not the end of the day though, and if you're a fan of rhythm action games VOEZ is one well worth checking out for its beauty, innovation, and wealth of content for that low price.
