  Unknown 9: Awakening may not be a groundbreaking title, but it offers a fun and engaging journey through an imaginative world that fans of mystery and light fantasy may enjoy. Clocking in at around 10 hours, it offers just enough intrigue to encourage players to see it through to the end, even if it doesn’t spark an immediate desire to dive into all other Unknown 9 media. While the game isn’t flawless and doesn’t belong among the year’s best, it provides a pleasant surprise, outshining initial expectations. The biggest shortcoming is that it often feels like a limited budget production, that would have needed more polishing to hide the rough edges.

  Gaming enthusiasts tend to talk a lot about how they want all-new games rather than playing the same tired franchises. Even with some technical hiccups holding it back in a few places, Unknown 9: Awakening delivers a fresh new world filled with memorable characters and an inventive combat system that pushed me to experiment with my powers. It may have gotten lost in 2024’s busy holiday season, but I hope more players return to it once the flood of new games slows. It’s the kind of hidden gem that deserves to be discovered.

  Ako volite avanturističke igre sa zanimljivim zapletima, možda biste želeli da sačekate dok se igra malo ne "stabilizuje". Problemi sa frejmrejtom su svakako rešivi, a ja se nadam da će razvojni tim barem izbaciti patch sa dodatkom opcije za Performance mod, koji ovoj igri veoma fali. Dok ne dobijete priliku da uživate u nekoj boljoj verziji, možda je bolje posvetiti se drugim naslovima. Neko će možda naći uživanje u putovanju Haroone, ali za mene, to je bila samo još jedna igra koja u sve većem nizu polu-gotovih proizvoda koji ne uspevaju da ispune nerealana očekivanja korporativne mašinerije.

  Met goede moed begon ik aan Haroona’s avontuur, hopend op een nostalgische singleplayer-ervaring zoals we die vroeger hadden. Maar dat 'vroeger' voelde in mijn ervaring vooral als een herinnering. Op verschillende fronten heeft de game echt dat last-gen budgetbak gevoel. De invloeden van titels als Uncharted en Tomb Raider zijn niet te missen, maar de repetitieve gevechten en inspiratieloze platforming laten veel te wensen over. De game wordt nog een beetje gered door de set pieces, het verhaal, en de sterke performance van Anya Chalotra.

  While there are elements to like in Unknown 9: Awakening, it doesn’t feel particularly innovative, except for the enemy possession mechanic. However, just as the first Assassin’s Creed didn’t immediately redefine its genre, perhaps this is just the beginning for the Unknown 9 franchise.

  Awakening is niet slecht, maar mist de finesse van een top-game. Dat is op zich niet gek van een debuutgame. We hopen dan ook dat dit niet het laatste is wat we van het Unknown 9 universum te zien gekregen hebben. Volgende keer beter.

  Visualmente, el juego no ofrece algo que valga la pena. Pese a tener a la India como locación principal, en su mayoría recorremos cuevas y bosques genéricos que hemos visto en otros lugares. El diseño de personajes es horripilante, y las animaciones carecen de un solo gramo de vida. El desempeño es terrible, y pareciera que el juego está a un mal paso de quebrarse. La música es genérica, con interpretaciones que seguramente olvidarás al instante.

  Figlio di uno sviluppo travagliato e durato decisamente più del previsto, Unknown 9: Awakening è “vittima” delle esagerate ambizioni di una giovanissima Reflector Entertainment, che ha scelto di gettarsi immediatamente a capofitto nella creazione di un complesso universo transmediale. Pur con tutti i suoi gravosi limiti tecnici e ludici, l’avventura narrativa propostaci da Bandai Namco risulta intrigante e divertente, soprattutto se affrontata in stealth ai livelli di difficoltà più elevati. L’immaginario crossmediale di Unknown 9 potrà in definitiva non essere partito col piede giusto in ambito videoludico, ma il suo potenziale - che rimane largamente inespresso - è innegabile.

  Unknown 9: Awakening is a game full of wasted potential. The story is basically incredibly unique and promising, but not well developed. This makes you feel disconnected from the world, the characters and their goals. In addition, the game is plagued by clunky controls and slow, monotonous animations. The combat feels mediocre because of this. The intelligence of the enemies could also have been increased a bit. And it would have been nice if the developer had given you more space to explore this unique world and walk new paths. As far as I'm concerned, Unknown 9: Awakening is not really recommended in this state.

  Unknown 9: Awakening is a generally solid action-adventure mystery let down by irritatingly repetitive combat encounters in the game's later half. The character dialogue and environmental exploration are a highlight, keeping me playing even when other aspects annoyed me.
