- A retro 80s game collection is on the way to indie superstardom. With 50 games in one, UFO 50 will induce nostalgia, but what truly steals the show is the gameplay, which is unique to each of the games.

Attraverso i suoi videogiochi UFO 50 racconta un momento storico, un'epoca che non è mai esistita, ma che si trova all'interno dei nostri ricordi, delle sensazioni e delle emozioni che abbiamo provato da bambini, quando questo mondo era ancora inesplorato. Allo stesso tempo ti richiede una certa devozione, un amore per un tipo di retrogaming ben specifico e tanta pazienza per esplorare una proposta capace di schiacciarti con la sua mole.

Lucas White · Oct 15, 2024 Reviewed on PCRead full review - I may not think that UFO 50 fully succeeded at feeling like an actual compilation of 8-bit games released for a long-lost console in the early 80s, with pretty much all of its titles feeling actually like modern indies covered in a retro coat of paint, but when a good chunk of these titles is so much fun, that’s just anecdotal. What really matters is that this is a package offering a staggering amount of bang for your buck, covering nearly all genres you can think of. Even if some of its games didn’t hit the spot to me, I still had a great time unveiling this library of “forgotten fictional titles”. Now, just do all of us a favor and port this to the Switch right away.

Dozens of the games are compelling enough to warrant a full playthrough, and even some of the less successful experiments have some intriguing element or inventive idea to draw you in. Best of all, it's exciting to have such a rich vein of strange, creative video game experiences to examine. This is nostalgia, but not the candy-coated feeling of reliving what we've already experienced. It's remembering how it felt to discover something new.

I dropped in for five minutes just to try out something new, and I was still there an hour later, robbing trains and chucking dynamite around. And I woke up the next day thinking about Rail Heist. That's just one example, but the same thing has happened to me a dozen times now. I'm effectively scrolling through UFO 50, and then it grabs me and pulls me inside and time passes without me knowing it.
