- Tropico 5 on consoles is a great port. It's a faithful recreation of the PC classic and a welcome addition to the scant city builders console players can enjoy.
Daniel Starkey · Jun 06, 2016 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Ideally a strategy game such as Tropico 5 would give the player the choice of either a game or player directed playing experience. Tropico 5: Penultimate Edition at first blush gives the player more but once you start playing it, you realize it has also taken away something a segment of its fan base enjoyed before – freedom to play the game they want.
Lou Sytsma · May 23, 2016 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Although it's easy to pick up, Tropico 5 is a deep and complex strategy title which keeps things interesting by throwing ever-changing challenges in to the story structure to mix things up. The humour expertly lightens the mood and adds life to the game, with each character proving slightly more unhinged than the last. Despite the technical error we encountered, it's undeniable that Tropico 5 is a good addition to the series, and the extra content and multiplayer included in this Penultimate Edition means you're sure to be playing this for a long time.
Josephine Lawton · May 23, 2016 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - The bottom line is Tropico 5 is a good entry-level sim and strategy game. If you love SimCity and Civilization, this should be up your alley. Of course, you could just keep playing a board game, but I digress…
Peter Paras · May 09, 2015 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - While Tropico 5 isn't the game-of-the-year masterpiece of a generation, it's a more-than serviceable sim and strategy title that can satisfy a grossly under-served genre within the console community. If you love SimCity and Civilization and are dying for something similar on your PS4, then there really is no reason not to have and enjoy this game to its fullest extent.
Robert Summa · May 05, 2015 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - It’s flaws are quickly overlooked as you have fun with the gameplay and narrative. The graphics are fun to inspect, because every citizen and building are as detailed as the menu system that rules their lives. From the campaign, to the sandbox, and even to the multiplayer, I’m eager to make sure that the Ivles McKittensby dynasty becomes a ruling force to reckon with in my quest to make and govern the perfect tropical island.
Dyani Wood · Apr 24, 2015 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Tropico 5 succeeded in making me feel powerful, and it enabled me to create a world in my image. But the game so entirely lacks compassion that it made me feel like a bully. There's an undeniable tension between the player, in the role of The Dictator, and the citizens. Tropico 5 fails to reconcile that conflict in a mature way, missing its shot at changing the series from a thoughtless getaway to a memorable, meaningful trip.
Charlie Hall · Jun 04, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - If you enjoy SimCity, any of the previous Tropico games, or city-building games in general, you'll probably find a lot to like here— unless you get it for PC, in which case you may not be able to play it until its developers get their coding under control.
Alex Langley · May 30, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The larger issue is that while Tropico 5 definitely introduces some new challenges and ideas, it's still a dangerously simple city-builder. That's always a threat with this genre: a well-run city doesn't really require much from you. But Tropico doesn't give me enough reasons to keep playing once I've finished the tech tree and reached the end.
Rob Zacny · May 29, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The challenge of trying to balance the internal and external forces arrayed around you never gets old. Whether you’re playing alone, or with friends in the new multiplayer mode, Tropico is a strategy sim for the masses to enjoy. Besides, where else will you get your very own Swiss bank account?
