  • Call me old fashioned, but when it comes to wanting a simple structured progression system akin to Trials Evolution, Trials Rising’s tendency to shamelessly Michael Bay the presentation did leave me pining for simpler times. However, I still found Trials Rising incredibly engrossing enough to fill dinner breaks and free time with the convenient ability to master the bunny hop anytime and anywhere.

Trials Rising is a great package for a small price. I really wish the late game wasn’t so grindy, but once I unlocked it all, I felt satisfied. The loot boxes are a waste of time and the customization did little to excite me. I just want Trials like I fell in love with. I come for the tracks and the challenge. Give me that and I need little else. Everything surrounding those things just gets in the way.

  • For my money, Trials Rising is simply worth every penny. It's a rare game that I'm finished reviewing and still want to play. I've already dropped $20 on the DLC and can't wait to see how the game expands in the coming months. Recommended, as long as you don't mind crashing and burning a lot before you get good. The biggest fault against Trials Rising is the sale and profiteering of loot crates and spending tons of extra money on cosmetic items.

  • Trials Rising feels like a pure incarnation of the series, and its significant structural and progression problems could be addressed over time as the live game evolves. But that revision (if it ever comes) is not the game currently on offer, and the current playthrough offers too much frustration in return for the moments of humor and skill mastery. I’m still an enthusiast for Trials, but when your gameplay is this established and staid, there’s no excuse for the surrounding trappings to be subpar.

  • Trials Rising improves some of the flaws from previous games and presents a wide variety of tracks, but a generally good impression is spoiled by insufferable grind and progress system. Nonetheless, it is still satisfying to hop back on the bike and take on the various stages as in the old days the beginning of the millennium.

  • Keeping the core fundamentals intact, Trials Rising is every bit as enjoyable and challenging as its predecessors, but is marred slightly by the introduction of a pointless levelling system that only serves to lock off tracks and force you to needlessly grind. That core Trials gameplay is still sensational, though.

  • Trials Rising is a brilliant return to the Trials franchise. I honestly can’t find too much to really be critical of here. The load times can be a bit long and the extra customization options can provide idiots with the tools to create inappropriate content. There are some visual issues, like background characters and the occasional issue with the riders ragdoll effects – such as getting stuck in an object or the ground.

  • By and large, Trials Rising doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it maintains a high level of quality with the vast majority of its content by fine-tuning the series’ strengths with a bevy of well-designed tracks, tight controls, physics-focused gameplay, and offbeat sense of humor. Should players never even get around to trying out the online multiplayer, local co-op, or level editor, Trials Rising is densely packed with enough features to keep their palms glued to the handlebars for the foreseeable future.

  • There’s no doubt that Trials Rising is the culmination of the entire series. Running races that are built around platforming elements with a bit of puzzle solving when things slow down is an experience you can’t find in any other game. Throw in a track editor and a ton of customization options, and there’s plenty to come back to and perfect. The downer, though, is the overemphasis on loot crates and putting all these customizations either behind a paywall or a really long grind.

  • Trials Rising is pure, unadulterated, arcade fun at its finest. The mechanics are simple, and indeed anyone can play. But mastering the techniques to get ever faster times can take countless hours. The extreme levels will really test players’ resolve, but the payoff of finally finishing the Everest level, for instance, is worth the obstacle-filled journey. There’s so much content packed into Trials Rising, it’s hard to believe the game is launching at $24.99.
