  • Aside from the stretches of the game you’re supposed to drive or fly through, nearly all of WfC is built around going from skirmish to skirmish, killing everything that moves before heading to the next area. The shooting is fun enough that it never gets really bland, but after killing your 100th non-descript Decepticon clone, it can get a little old. Fortunately, the enemy types are varied enough to keep the combat from getting too monotonous.

  • I'm a huge Transformers fan, so take that into account, but I really enjoyed War for Cybertron. It's the first game I've played that nails the personality of the bots and it genuinely delivers a solid gaming experience alongside the nostalgia. When played alone the lack of ammo and punishing enemies can cause frustration, but get together with some friends, or go online and play as teams, and you'll want that Optimus Prime bed again - only this time hopefully your mum won't be able to say no.

  • Transformers: War for Cybertron is a breath of fresh air for fans of the series and a great introduction for those of you out there oblivious to the feats of the Autobots and Decepticons. The game is not without its growing pains as the graphics suffer at times, offline co-op is absent and the Multiplayer can become a lag fest. However when the dust settles and you step past these issues, you are left with one of the most enjoyable games featuring transforming robots in recent memory.

  • What could have been a generic third-person shooter is bolstered by solid gameplay and an awesome transformation mechanic that makes battles fast-paced and very mobile. The visuals and combat set pieces begin to get repetitious by the end, and the AI feels buggy, but the multiplayer is terrific fun - for the most part, it simply works well together.

  • Transformers: War For Cybertron's campaign has some pretty exciting, stand-out moments. But these are usually padded out by long, drawn-out sections of corridor shooting. The game could have done with a bit more variety - perhaps more use of the character's vehicular forms. Either way, the rather short campaign can often feel like it's dragging.

  • Even towering robots have difficulty hiding the many problems present in Transformers: War for Cybertron. The campaign is an arduous affair that is poorly paced and lacks variety. The only noteworthy element is being able to transform at a moment's notice, but even that seems tacked on to the stale shooting mechanics. But there is still fun buried within this game if you look hard enough. Beyond the campaign are enticing cooperative and competitive modes that are easy to lose hours to.

  • That's really the best thing that can be said about Transformers: War For Cybertron. Its campaign is only worth seeing through if you're extremely curious to see how it ties into some of the other Transformers lore out there, and the multiplayer is solid, if perhaps a bit uninspired. It's a good diversion that'll keep you engaged for a few days, but don't go in expecting long-term excitement.

  • War for Cyberton is a good shooter that'll hold your attention for dozens of hours with its multiplayer thrills, and the campaign is well worth the trek. Though it's certainly a fan-pleaser, its appeal isn't necessarily limited to those who know what "Generation One" means. This game definitely has the touch.

High Moon has been very good at saying all the right things with War for Cybertron leading up to its arrival in stores, but many licensed titles have talked a great game before falling apart when all was said and done. Thankfully, War for Cybertron impresses with an excellent single-player campaign with full co-op support, the included Horde-alike Escalation mode, and surprisingly deep and inventive online multiplayer component.

  • Transformers: War for Cybertron is a crystal clear, easy-to-follow example of how to do a licensed game. High Moon didn't think of the Tranformers' abilities as a liability, as something to be shoehorned into a standard game, but rather embraced them and came away with something really special. Here's hoping the developers of the next big licensed title have the guts and creativity to follow in these Buick-sized footsteps.
