- All in all, the racing sections of TRANSFORMERS: Galactic Trials work well but the shooting side of things is less well implemented. And there’s no doubt that the fusion of the two is just weird. Going from driving to running to driving again in the space of a single lap feels jarring, and I can’t help thinking that the developers should have stuck to one genre or the other. Yet for the flaws in TRANSFORMERS: Galactic Trials, it’s still capable of delivering a fun and nostalgic experience for fans of the Transformers franchise.
Paul Renshaw · Oct 28, 2024 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - TRANSFORMERS: Galactic Trials is one of those games that has an amazing concept but fails to truly deliver on it. You’ll be treated to a fairly sluggish arcade racing experience, with some combat segments thrown in for good measure. While there’s nothing truly horrible about the experience, the barebones content will not motivate players to keep on grinding for more unlocks, and the sluggish cars and the awkward combat controls don’t do the game any favors either. With some additional content, a layer of polish, and something that would truly create that need for speed feeling, this could be a hit. Sadly, as it stands now, it’s a fun little bite-sized experience that is worth picking up from the sales bin.
Ibuki · Oct 18, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - A licensed Transformers racing game with actual robot combat elements being one of the most unique and fun racers of 2024 was certainly not on my bingo card, but I ain’t complainin’. A very solid racing module, a lot of smashing and bashing in car form, and then a fast-paced, if quite simplistic third-person robot-shooting intermissions make for a legit fun time, with even a surprising depth in the loadouts and available characters. Sure, a bit more polish and variety wouldn’t have hurt, and the progression is rather bizarre – and the lack of proper multiplayer is a bummer. Still, Transformers: Galactic Trials is both a great Transformers game for fans young and old, and an exhilarating racer with a lot of fresh ideas and a quite solid execution all around. Keep an eye out for this one!
Győző Baki · Oct 15, 2024 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Transformers: Galactic Trials is overpriced and full of nothing. The gimmick of switching between vehicular racing and robotic shooting might have worked if both halves weren’t so thoughtlessly welded together like a shoddy cut-and-shut car. Then again, its meager content and technical sloppiness suggests it never had a chance.
James Stephanie Sterling · Oct 15, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - It’s a shame it doesn’t really come together because, as we noted at the start of the review, there’s actually the glimmer of a good idea here. If the shooting sequences were better executed and the car handling better honed, you could end up with an interesting alternative take on the arcade racer that serves its license well. But while there’s some reasonable presentation on display, the package doesn’t deliver on its ambition at all.
Sammy Barker · Oct 15, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Besides a few minor frustrations, TRANSFORMERS: Galactic Trials presents a superb blend of racing, platforming, and shooting that really packs a punch when it all comes together. Whether you're testing your skills or taking on a chum, you'll have a great time.
A.J. Maciejewski · Oct 12, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - TRANSFORMERS: Galactic Trials is a fun hybrid racer that will appeal to younger gamers. The fast-paced race elements can be enjoyed by 1 or 2 players. Alongside this, you'll tackle run-and-gun layers as you work your way to the finish line. This bizarre combination will annoy purists, but lovers of the franchise will not care. Though it doesn't excel, it is a decent fantasy racing title.
DANIEL WAITE · Oct 11, 2024 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Transformers: Galactic Trials is one of those games that has some good ideas but fails to execute them successfully. While the racing action is basic but fun, its on-foot sections are terrible, and there are other issues, too. And so, while it looks fairly nice, has plenty of unlockables and its roguelike elements add some variety between runs, it's ultimately impossible to recommend.
