  • The Vita library is still lacking in major-major titles, but this one can take a few hours of your time. You might get sick of it from the straightforward and mash-y nature, but I didn’t. It’s the rare exception in my library that I’m not mad just lookin’ at it. It’s preeeeetty.

  • Overall, combat is smooth, avoiding the more sluggish and sedate gameplay of some similar titles in the genre. The camera control is great and the use of lock on really helps when trying to take down the Oni with multiple combos and attacks. It’s honestly just plain fun to play. ...Toukiden Kiwami is definitely a great action RPG; while it isn’t as polished as the Monster Hunter series, this clone is definitely one of the best.

  • Toukiden: Kiwami offers one of the best stories I experienced in a while. Although the pacing is broken up by having to defeat the same group of monsters, I soon fell in love with its mechanics. I also enjoyed crafting all the different manner of items featured in the game. If you were wondering which title to choose that will best introduce you to the monster-hunting genre, Toukiden: Kiwami is a perfect place to start.

  • Toukiden: Kiwami has an intricate and expansive system of armour, weapons, mitama and power-ups to keep the gameplay interesting. That said, I couldn’t help but feel that the amount of button mashing was excessive considering the detail put elsewhere.

The PS4 version is very serviceable and really makes me wish we saw other games in the genre actually hit consoles. Until then, Toukiden is a fine game that monster hunting game fans will enjoy even without the depth they may be used to. This is also a great introduction to the genre for players not familiar with Monster Hunter. I say give this a shot, it’s pretty great especially with some friends.

  • Overall, Toukiden: Kiwami is a great game that is marred by repetition. With a huge amount of missions and quests to complete, as well as weapons and Mitama to acquire, there’s well over 60 hours worth of entertainment to be had. No other game on the Playstation 4 or Vita offers what this game has: epic battles against gargantuan beasts.

  • Toukiden: Kiwami offers demon slaying on the go, and it's a fine example of what the PlayStation Vita can do, people who have previously experienced the series will lap this up in an instant, while people wanting to give the series a go for the first time should jump straight to Kiwami as the original content, which is included in this package, makes for a perfect warm up to the intense challenges that this game offers.

  • But, other than being annoyingly repetitive, Toukiden: Kiwami is a fun game. Thanks to a large amount of weapons and armor to choose from, and characters that not only exist as chattable civilians but also as bloodthirsty warriors, you can spend a lot of enjoyable hours on Toukiden. If you’re a fan of either Monster Hunter of the Dynasty Warrior titles, you might want to give it a try.

  • Toukiden: Kiwami is a great entry in the PlayStation 4’s catalog, specifically due to the lack of its genre’s presence on the machine. It builds off of last year’s Vita game in intelligent ways to make it the definitive Toukiden experience. It has its shortcomings, but they don’t hamper the enjoyment that can derived. Its action is fluid and fast, its customization options plentiful. Its setting is also compelling, if for nothing else than for the fact that it’s not a frequently employed one.

  • The positive of moving to the more powerful PS4 is that even when things get a bit too hectic, the framerate remains consistent. ...The transition to console controls, enhanced graphics and altogether smoother gameplay coupled with the insane amount content that Tecmo Koei games are known for make it worthwhile. ...Yes, the game still comes with the staggering amount of content, but unless you thought Toukiden was god-tier on the Vita, Kiwami won't really do much for you.
