- Total War: Warhammer 2 lets you enjoy the world of Warhammer without having to buy a bunch of miniatures, and gives the Total War campaigns the story and structure they were always crying out for. So rally your soldiers and mount your horse/pegasi/terradon/nightmare! Total War: Warhammer 2 is a treasure worth marching across even the most chaos-blighted, skaven-infested, necromantically-corrupted lands to find.
Jonathan Trussler · Oct 24, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - A beautiful sequel to an already great franchise innovates in some key ways without changing the game's look and feel too much. There is a lot of content here with the large campaign map and all the different factions vying for control over the New World. The real-time battles are as fun to watch and play as always, and the differences between races force you to approach every campaign differently, to great success.
Chris Anderson · Oct 05, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - As there are no games that compete in the same space as Total War, they themselves are setting the benchmark by which we compare each release. But will the series continue to make significant steps forward or are we now at the point where it can only be polished? The mighty Assassin’s Creed tried that and eventually we tired of the annual releases. Let’s hope Creative Assembly can keep pushing the series forward with innovative ideas.
Felix Nova · Oct 03, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - If you’re not in the mood for the campaign, preloaded quest battles are also available, complete with full rosters of ready-to-go units. These are a great way to get a taste for the feel of battle before setting off into the investment of campaign, and they let you play around with each race’s key units. Warhammer’s long legacy in gaming has found a perfect partner in Total War. If you’re a fan of strategy games, chaotic rat-men, or rampaging dinosaurs, this isn’t one to miss.
Daniel Tack · Sep 28, 2017 Reviewed on PC - While there aren't many factions and some of the Total War complexity can be vexing, as a whole, this is among the best versions of Warhammer to hit the PC yet.
Ty Arthur · Sep 28, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - With Warhammer II, Total War doesn't reinvent anything so much as it iterates on the ideas that made the first so special. At its heart there's still the marriage of Total War's big-scale strategy and Warhammer's precise tactical play. But, through a thousand tiny tweaks, they've refined the experience into one of the most intriguing and exciting strategy games ever.
Daniel Starkey · Sep 27, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Pairing the tactical brilliance of the Total War series with the rich lore of the Warhammer universe is a natural fit, and Total War: Warhammer 2 fulfills the promise of that combination. It is a deep and challenging experience with an epic story to tell. It is also one of the most overwrought games of the year, a game where complexity seems to be piled on for complexity's sake.
Charlie Hall · Sep 27, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Total War: Warhammer II takes the fantasy setting to its next logical level. Bringing in completely unique factions, giving them all a personality of their own in the franchises most focused campaign ever has led to an incredibly compelling game. The only problem is that the old Total War issues of poor AI with diplomacy still prevails and that the economy is easy to game to your advantage. Still, altogether an outstanding release.
Chris Wray · Sep 26, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - This sequel improves on the original in terms of accessibility, maps, and improving the heroes through use, but it does falter a bit on the technical end, and keeps its story impenetrable. Fortunately, none of that matters when sending a flaming phoenix to break the enemy lines. During that moment, everything is forgiven, and real time strategy can once again reign supreme.
Jason Bohn · Sep 26, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Some lingering series quirks persist, but other smart lessons from the first game have been applied to Total War: Warhammer 2. Another four mechanically diverse factions, each pursuing a singular campaign goal on a richly detailed map, make this a powerful sequel.
