- Those Who Remain looks and plays like it come through a time portal from the mid-90s. The graphics are washed-out, plain, and badly angular. The frame rate is choppy despite the simplicity of visuals and jerks horribly when turning the viewpoint. There is no cohesion to the production design; nonspecific props are just scattered all over the place and random images from the web are plastered into frames that decorate walls.
Jukka Piira · Jun 16, 2020 Reviewed on PS4 - Those Who Remain is a Frankenstein of cool concepts lifted from other horror games and shoddily reconstituted into a mishmash of mediocrity. It’s got some of the ingredients of a good horror game, but they mesh together like pizza and ice cream. Though the game doesn’t deserve to be cast into hell for eternity, it definitely has some mistakes that are hard to forgive.
Jonathan Trussler · Jun 15, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Although it had some good ideas at the start, Those Who Remain feels like the most cookie cutter horror game possible that barely manages to present anything fresh enough to keep you interested across the six hour playtime.
Dean James · Jun 13, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Those Who Remain deserves major points for creativity of ideas and premise. The title holds a lot of promise, but ultimately fails to deliver a memorable, cohesive performance. Because puzzles force players to run back and forth to find solutions which can take time away from immersion into this world. Those Who Remain is a title committed to psychological horror, but has self-sabotaged with mediocre gameplay.
Fran Soto · Jun 12, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - I'm a massive horror gaming fan, so it's disappointing when games continue to take the same paths in a bid to scare players. Those Who Remain is an example of wasting an interesting beginning and stretching it out over the entirety of a full-length adventure. It's just bland and mediocre – not awful – but forgettable, especially when there are so many better horror stories out there to be told.
Brittany Vincent · Jun 05, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Subtitles are on by default and you’ll need them. Often the game’s background sound effects drown out the conversations, or they’ll be muttered in an unintelligible voice. At other times, the sound is loud enough to wake the entire neighborhood. All of these problems turn the game from something promising into a mediocre experience that’s less psychological horror than it is torture. There are better horror experiences out there.
Rebecca Smith · Jun 04, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Overall, Those Who Remain is fine. Just fine. It’s not terrible and doesn’t deserve to be hate-played or mocked or anything like that. Edward is a fine protagonist, the eerie atmosphere starts out strong and devolves to fine, and the gameplay is fine. I’m sure a lot of work went into this experience (I say this a lot, but I mean it), but unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be anything keeping this game safe from the gaping maw of irrelevance.
Lillian King · Jun 04, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - In the end, I have to say that Those Who Remain was a disappointment. I wanted to like it, I really did, especially since the true premise of the game is pretty original. It could lend itself very well to other games in the future. Unfortunately, it’s fleeting moments of brilliance are lost within the dregs of tired horror tropes, inconsistency with its rules, uninspired gameplay mechanics, and an unfulfilling ending.
Heidi Hawes · Jun 03, 2020 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - As credits rolled in Those Who Remain, I felt I had enjoyed enough of it not to feel like I wasted my evening, unlike I have with so many October movie marathons. It's not a horror game I'll think of first when people come to me asking for recommendations, but for the biggest horror fans who keep up with the genre, one could do worse than the occult ghost story told in Those Who Remain.
Mark Delaney · Jun 03, 2020 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Those Who Remain puts on a passable front, but once we get past that there’s nothing here that’s worth getting worked up over. With a dull story, tedious searching of areas using unresponsive inputs, scares that never really come and some technical hiccups that make it feel like a last gen title, you’re best off looking elsewhere for your pulse racing thrills.

About the game
Trailers & Screenshots:
Those Who Remain is a psychological thriller that takes place in Dormont, a small town in the US. Dormont appears to be a regular and typical American town at first glance, but it is however cursed by a demon who shrouded everything in darkness.
Most of Dormont’s population has been trapped inside the darkness, with no means of escape.
Edward Turner is just an ordinary man with a troubled past, who arrives in the wrong place at the wrong time. But he soon finds out that something is very wrong in Dormont.
There are strange creatures roaming in the dark, killing everyone that gets close. The only way to survive is by staying in the light.
The danger in the dark is not the only thing at play in Dormont.
There are strange portals that emanate a bright light, that seem to bring anyone that goes through them to another place, similar yet different, apparently unreal but very real.
Actions taken in one place have repercussions in the other.
