- This War of Mine: Final Cut is a very good game, but not necessarily what I would call “fun”. The strategy elements are entertaining and stimulating, without question, but the entire gaming is wholly depressing. Again, this is by design. This is not a game that meant for you to escape the dregs of everyday life, but rather provide a thought-provoking experience about the full scope of war.

While the game feels slow and a little aimless at times, it makes up for it with moments of real tension, drama and difficult decisions. Its aesthetics and overall mechanics have aged well, and thematically it’s more timely than ever. It can be a pretty bleak game, but it was, and remains, worth playing. This War of Mine Final Cut looks better than ever and feels perfectly at home in this version.

We mainly disliked the very wonky controls and the game could have also used a graphical update, but other than that, we still found the game to be very engaging. After getting used to the controls, we did our very best to ensure the survival of the characters in our care, and sometimes it was extremely hard to decide what course of action to take. The latter is certainly one of the game’s strong points, as when a game with a heavy underlying theme makes you think, it already succeeds in what it sets out to do.

While it's gameplay may sometimes be clunky and slow, the game still manages to capture your attention with atmosphere and purpose as you slowly gather supplies and materials in these emerging stories that will stick with you forever.

It is no surprise that it was the first video game in history to be added to a school curriculum. Its depiction of the harsh reality of war for civilians makes it one of the most unique games to come out of the previous decade.

Like real war, every story you play will be different with different outcomes, and you’ll be led to make increasingly more desperate and erratic choices to ensure the survival of your characters.

That’s part of the point. Buying a video game perhaps isn’t the best way to support those people, but This War of Mine: Final Cut captures the true horror of war in a way that few video games will even try, let alone succeed, and for that, it’s an absolute must-play.

Surviving in Sarajevo will be an experience you will likely not forget for a long time.

La escena indie ha entregado un sinfín de títulos, y puede que el jugador se sienta abrumado pensando que estamos ante “otro más”, pero This War of Mine: Final Cut es una propuesta muy recomendable porque tiene identidad propia y reafirma que se trata, sin duda, de uno de los mejores representantes del género. This War of Mine: Final Cut llega a consolas de actual generación con su mejor versión hasta el momento.

The Remastered Final Cut version for Xbox Series X|S is finally here! In This War Of Mine, you do not play as an elite soldier, rather as a group of civilians trying to survive in a besieged city; struggling with a lack of food, medicine and constant danger from snipers and hostile scavengers. During the day you need to focus on maintaining your hideout: crafting, trading and taking care of your survivors. At night, take one of your civilians on a mission to scavenge for items that will help you stay alive. Make life-and-death decisions driven by your conscience. Try to protect everybody from your shelter or sacrifice some of them for longer-term survival. During war, there are no good or bad decisions; there is only survival. The sooner you realize that, the better.
