  • The value you get for your money is unquestionable. The Wreck offers not just hours of engaging gameplay but also the potential for multiple playthroughs, each uncovering new layers of the story. The game’s peaceful visuals and moving soundtrack immerse players in Junon’s world, making every decision feel significant and each emotional moment hits home.

  • Overall, while The Wreck is a visually creative and narratively rich game that offers a unique storytelling experience, it fails to make the player put together the story in a satisfying way. It is interesting to view Junon’s memories and see her reactions to the world. But she is often so one-note that it is difficult to connect with her, and the experience of reviewing the memories of the wreck eventually devolves into more of a chore than a fun puzzle

  • The Wreck is exactly what I was hoping for as a next step from the creators of Bury me, my Love. The same high quality writing and storytelling is here intact, but now with a budget that allows for much more compelling visuals and audio. More importantly, it tells a meaningful story of painful introspection and does so with grace, style, and a lot more nuance than most other games that have tried to do something similar.

  • The Wreck isn’t a good game just because of what’s in it and how it’s portrayed. The Wreck isn’t a bad game because it fumbles certain elements of satisfaction. It’s the type of experience that sparks interpretation, discussion and pondering, even now as I type these words. A testament to the world’s absurdity, the cycles we find ourselves in, the attempts to escape, and knowing how it shapes you as a person.

  • Rounding things off, this is possibly one of the most deeply emotional gaming experiences out there and boasts an art style that works perfectly for a visual novel. As well as serving up a unique game mechanic this is an inexpensive title that could easily go unnoticed in this world of AAA behemoths, but hopefully, it will get the attention that it rightly deserves. Delivering a truly different gaming experience, fans of the genre are sure to appreciate what is on offer here.

  • It’s real. It’s raw. It doesn’t try to sugar-coat how brutal grief – and human emotions as a whole – can be. It tells its story in a beautiful way, and while there are no major plot twists or huge, action-packed moments, it kept us hooked from start to finish. The Wreck might not be a technical marvel, but it’s clear that The Pixel Hunt have mastered the art of human storytelling.

  • The Wreck is definitely not a game for everyone. Admittedly, it’s pretty tough to get through, for a variety of reasons. It has a somewhat slow start, which might turn some people off. It also covers several mature topics and themes, such as grief, death, self-harm, and toxic relationships. However, for those who love a compelling narrative, The Wreck has that in spades.

  • After all the pieces have been placed and THE END is scrawled onto Junon's script, there's a true sense of finality once the last dialogue choice is made. While the draft is complete, it's also somewhat at odds with its cyclical structure. How it explores these themes – the recurring cycles of trauma, reckoning with losing a loved one, the inability to fully appreciate events in the moment – and marries them with its limited mechanics can be red meat for good YouTube essays.

  • It’s a great and emotional story – I’d say fabulous, but I feel like it doesn’t fit the mood. The emotions and experiences you go through with Junon are raw and very well written. She doesn’t hide her feelings no matter how heavy they are but we see her grow and get past her roadblocks. The Wreck is very well written with the occasional slice of comedy to lighten up the darkness.

  • It’s too structured and symmetrical, making it feel less like a story and more like a syllabus of homework tasks. Everything gets repeated, to the degree that the team could probably take a machete to half of The Wreck and still have too much left over. And it flits like a moth to moments of sadness, without any light in between, making it occasionally arduous.
