- It’s a real shame that the engine issues in The Wolf Among Us: Episode 2 – Smoke and Mirrors are far less discreet this time around, but that’s genuinely the only flaw to date in a series that’s rapidly catching up with its undead other half. It may be more lethargically paced, but the revelations remain shocking, the crime scene investigating is stimulating, and the plot continues to thicken with each new piece of evidence that you uncover.
Ben Potter · Feb 17, 2014 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - ...it wouldn’t be a surprise to see audience interest starting to wane, particularly if Telltale continues to treat us more as viewers than as players.
Edge Staff · Feb 14, 2014 Reviewed on PC - If ‘Faith’ was the setup to the story then ‘Smoke and Mirrors’ is where the plot gets into the meat and potatoes of what’s to come. Bigby gets into his swing as an investigator and uncovers some killer (pun very much intended) surprises along the way. It is short but despite that fact it still does exactly what it should, which is have you eagerly anticipating episode three. I’m sure that after you come out of the haze of ‘Smoke and Mirrors’ you’ll be more than chomping at the bit to walk ‘A Crooked Mile’.
Shawn Petraschuk · Feb 13, 2014 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Rather than trying to make game experiences more cinematic, Telltale is trying to make cinematic experiences more like a game. Who cares if it’s devoid of challenge? Smoke and Mirrors, like Faith before it, gives players a sense of being in control of the story as it unfolds. If we stop calling it a game and see it as ‘interactive entertainment,’ it would be hard to call The Wolf Among Us anything short of exceptional.
Jim Squires · Feb 11, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - ‘Smoke and Mirrors’ doesn’t match up to the previous episode in terms of content, or the quality of its content, but it’s still another great instalment. It’s a touch short but it puts the series in a really interesting place going forward. It’s another show that telltale have a reverence and understanding for this universe, and that they know how to craft stories in it. The writing is top notch, the atmosphere is incredible and the gameplay is consistently fun. It’s nothing intricate or complicated, but the pace never drops and adventure game tropes never pop in to irritate you.
Stephen Gillespie · Feb 10, 2014 Reviewed onRead full review - After The Wolf Among Us: Episode 2’s 90 minutes I felt more satisfied than after finishing most recent 20+ hour-long games, however now we will have to play the hardest game of all until the next episode, the waiting game.
Faber Whitehouse · Feb 10, 2014 Reviewed onRead full review - The most important thing is that while I wasn’t in as much of a shock when I got to the cliffhanger at the end of this episode, I was left wanting more, and if episode three was installed and ready to go, there is no doubt in my mind that I would’ve happily played on. Nothing else needs to be said.
Jae Lee · Feb 07, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Future episodes may imbue Smoke and Mirrors with retrospective significance, but on its own it feels like a brief setup for more important revelations to come. I'd give the series another episode or so before deciding to buy in, but I remain hopeful. The setting is fantastic. It looks beautiful. The Wolf Among us still simmers with potential.
Tom Senior · Feb 06, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - So, The Wolf Among Us has another strong episode under its belt, though one which doesn’t feature any particular stand-out moments. The lack of choices really lets it down, but the plot might necessitate this at this stage in the season. While the story is great, don’t expect it to blow you away as much as the first episode. Let’s hope the next episodes pay off.
Blair Inglis · Feb 06, 2014 Reviewed onRead full review - Smoke and Mirrors is a solid continuation for The Wolf Among Us. A lot of seeds were planted in Faith, and while a few have borne fruit, most of this episode’s running time is spent tending to them. This episode has a fairly basic story, driven forward by great character writing and a compelling air of mystery, but it’s plain to see that there are many dramatic, earth-shattering moments yet to come.
