  • So overall, I would say 95% of this game is pure excellence. I had an absolutely fantastic time playing it and it was surprisingly long (I thought I could finish it in one sitting, but it actually took me two full nights of playing). It’s just a shame that one teeny tiny detail took my impression of it from great down to good. It’s still well worth playing even with the frustration, but without that minor detail it could have been one of the best.

  • The Swapper is a game that will get you thinking, not only due to its clever puzzles, but because of the thoughts and feelings the game provokes through its narrative. Although it’s a short game (clocking in at around two to three hours depending on your ability to solve the game’s puzzles) The Swapper is definitely a game that is worth every penny of its asking price, especially as it is a Cross-Buy title. Similar to the clones that you will conjure up to assist you through this beautifully put together game, recommending The Swapper is a no-brainer.

  • Just like how The Wolf Among Us and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons shocked me with how good they were without knowing anything prior, The Swapper was an insanely pleasant surprise. With very fun and versatile gameplay spread across an incredibly atmospheric setting with a superbly scored soundtrack, The Swapper is one of the best puzzles games I’ve played in recent years and is a must try for any puzzle game fans.

  • Facepalm Games have created something special with The Swapper, with Cruve Studios helping to bring the game to PlayStation. The unique cloning abilities of the mysterious Swapper device pave the way for some challenging puzzle designs and a gripping story, that sci-fi fans will no doubt love. However, you can’t help but feel that it’s all over far too soon.

  • The Swapper is an indie puzzle platformer with a gameplay hook which is cleverly married to a grand operatic narrative. Its strange visuals and atmospheric soundtrack augment this vision, creating a wholly unique and cohesive experience. While some of its later puzzles are a bit too fiddly for their own good, and the overall pacing sometimes feels a little off kilter, this is still a space voyage that comes highly recommended.

  • This is a well-designed experience that has the potential to win over non-puzzler fans. Its simple mechanics and gradual difficulty curve allow players to never feel overwhelmed, making it perfect for puzzle veterans and rookies alike. ...The Swapper would stand on its own as a well-designed puzzler, but its excellent narrative and understated sense of terror make it an experience to remember.

  • It successfully made me take a step back, look at my own being, and asked tough psychological, moral, and ethical questions that don’t necessarily have a right or a wrong answer. ...The Swapper will fly under many people’s radar, which is unfortunate because with its unique take on graphics, puzzles, and narrative, they will be missing out on what I would say is the best puzzle platformer experience since Portal.

  • It's a routine concept but one implemented with a delicious amount of competence. The puzzles, which start easily enough, ramp up speedily in terms of difficulty. Though they progress at an expected incline, they can still be absolutely rage-inducing, as there is no way you can get around solving any of these buggers.

  • The Swapper is a slow and thoughtful game unnervingly fixated on its gratuitous death toll. It's a puzzle game that asks you to consider your actions, both literally and mentally — what they did and what they cost. It is the space marine shooter inverted. Its antagonists are immobile, talkative rocks; its environment is static and action-free; its sole weapon only kills you. And The Swapper is a fantastic puzzle game because its best riddles are the ones that can't be solved.

  • To simply describe the experience as a challenging puzzle game would sell short its fascinating environments and carefully constructed narrative. There’s a lot more to it than you can convey with a box quote or one minute trailer. This is a game that demands more from its players, and treats them as capable thinkers. Don’t make the mistake of dismissing The Swapper.

About the game

The Swapper is an atmospheric puzzle platformer set in the furthest reaches of space. Players wield an experimental device able to clone the user and swap control between them. Dropped into a character and world as mysterious as the workings of the device itself, The Swapper is a game of exploration of a very personal nature.
