- I did like the efforts put into the game’s world, from its alien landscape to its well-done world building and story. It’s the kind of world you can easily get lost in without even thinking about it. It’s just that actually playing the game wasn’t much fun. I almost feel like it would have done better with its gameplay elements removed. It feels strange to suggest that to a video game of all things, but here we are.
Samuel Guglielmo · Oct 21, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Still, The Solus Project does far more right than it does wrong. The VR mode especially shines as it offers the full experience, with a respectable run-time more akin to that of Resident Evil VII than to that of, say, Robinson: The Journey or Psychonauts: In the Rhombus of Ruin. And there’s plenty of content to enjoy during that time, not only from the story, but also the collectables, the exploration for and of hidden areas, and survival itself.
David Brooks · Oct 14, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - The Solus Project is poor survival game that plays far better as a walking simulator. The lack of any guidance in controls and direction will leave you feeling clueless on how to proceed throughout. The environments are bland and barren, and although the weather and day/night cycle offer some positives, they're all ultimately overshadowed by the game’s negatives. To top it all off a below par PlayStation VR option and a large number of bugs turn what could have been a good survival title into a disappointing one.
Simon Fitzgerald · Oct 02, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - I wanted to like The Solus Project, I really did, but it was subpar.
Léon Othenin-Girard · Sep 28, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - The Solus Project does what it sets out to do — immerse you in a dangerous environment for a dozen or so hours and task you with surviving long enough to experience the story. While I wish there was a bit more to the plot, and while the controls frustrated me, it’s a fairly solid exploration and survival game. The VR component makes it worth investing some time in.
Branden Johnson · Sep 28, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - From a conceptual standpoint, The Solus Project is fascinating. The sense of scale is amplified in VR, especially the fantastic skyboxes that cycle between day and night, massive planets in rotation around you, and the ferocity of the elements.
Chandler Wood · Sep 26, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - The Solus Project tries to bring story and survival together in an engaging way, but it ultimately falters in this attempt. It has moments of wonder, but they're divided by what is mostly monotonous wandering from place to place. It's a disappointing game with a lot of missed potential, and it doesn't convey a good story or the rewarding feeling of surviving against the elements.
Mat Paget · Jun 29, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Firing up The Solus Project was one of those rare happy gaming experiences where there was no pre-announcement fanfare or hype and so, no pre-conceived expectations. It was a wonderful surprise to find out how good the game was and how quickly I became engrossed it. You really feel like a solitary stranger in a strange land. This one has tons of atmosphere.
Lou Sytsma · Jun 08, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Janky, ugly and unpolished is the best way to describe The Solus Project. It had a noble idea of combining the walking sim narrative game with survival simulation stats, and on paper this is a concept that definitely has appeal. It is too bad that this was executed so badly, and it can all be attributed to failing to get the fundamentals of control and playability just right.
Albert Lichi · Sep 23, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Ultimately, The Solus Project is a title which is likely only going to be enjoyed by the fans of the survival genre, as it does too little to entice your average gamer into purchasing it. It’s a mechanically competent title, but one which isn’t devoid of technical flaws, which considering the fact that it has been out for over a year on other platforms, are simply inexcusable.
