- I really wish The Good Life wasn’t a constant tug of war match. A series of steps forward, and equal steps back. I frequently would find myself loving the richness and detail of the setting, only to be taken out of it by an annoying gameplay mechanic. It overstays its welcome, and rides what it does well out thin. If you can get it on sale or on Game Pass, I’d say you might as well give it a shot. It’s not devoid of positives, but it ends up being painfully average at best. While I hope Swery’s supposed collaboration with Suda51 will be good, I don’t think I will be returning to Rainy Woods.
Cullen Black · Jan 11, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The Good Life feels like his most polished effort to date and probably a greater realization of what he had attempted to do with Deadly Premonition, at least in terms of free, exploratory gameplay. As for the likelihood that I, and perhaps even you, are spending way too much time on the internet, maybe it is time for a break.
Abraham Kobylanski · Jan 05, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The Good Life is an interesting game with good ideas and oddly charming gameplay. However, it is a rather shallow experience, running out of new things after a while, and reducing the remaining content to a dull grind. Luckily, the main story can be cleared in about 6 hours and this offers the bulk of the content, letting players engage with everything else only as much as they desire.
Noparg · Dec 27, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Fans of Swery will no doubt lap this up, quirks and all, but I just could not get on with the game at all. Every time I thought I had finally turned a corner with it some other nonsense turned up that put me right back at square one. Overloaded with poorly implemented decent ideas, this is a one for truly dedicated players only.
Jamie Collyer · Nov 07, 2021 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - The Good Life can be summed up as one of the more polished SWERY experiences. For some, that explains all they need to know; for everyone else, it’s like a fun, repetitive, sweet and sour mixture between Little Dragons Cafe, Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon, Pokemon Snap, No More Heroes III, and Katamari Damacy.
Heather Johnson Yu · Oct 28, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Having said that, it’s quite expansive and filled with things to do, the plot twists are intriguing and engaging, and Naomi does smooth her edges down the further along you get, though she never totally hits for me. If you need a good dose of high strangeness coupled with a lot of things to do, there’s no better time to move to Rainy Woods and get a peek into The Good Life.
Oliver Shellding · Oct 26, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The Good Life is a curious and uneven experience. As a sort of hybrid RPG meets life-sim, it's certainly competent, despite the grind it demands. Surprisingly, the novel premise takes a back seat for the most part, but it's never anything less than adorably easy-going, carried along by a carefree attitude and endless charm.
David Wildgoose · Oct 26, 2021 Reviewed on PC, PS4Read full review - While The Good Life still has some annoyances carried over from Deadly Premonition, it’s still a great time with some wacky characters. The transformations and photography are a lot of fun to mess around with, and the life simulation aspects compliment the more relaxed pace nicely.
David Flynn · Oct 24, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - While The Good Life has its charms, most of the gameplay just feels really sluggish. Many of the story quests will have you making your way to a point on the map to watch a cutscene, you’ll then have to make your way somewhere else to watch the next one, and so on until the quest ends. The side quests also end up feeling repetitive and while it can be pretty relaxing to go through all the quests and slowly tick them off, for many players this will get tiresome pretty quickly.
Jenny Jones · Oct 22, 2021 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - There is a ton of stuff to do in The Good Life, even multiple main storylines to pursue. Unfortunately, completing them and fulfilling the side missions is not very fun. Between the constant back and forth across the huge map and the fetch quests, I feel that more in-depth gameplay features would really help me enjoy this game.

About the game
Trailers & Screenshots:
The player assumes the role of Naomi, a reporter who comes to Rainy Woods, the self-called “happiest place on Earth”. She is looking for a way to pay her debts. When she founds a corpse of a young woman, she decides to concentrate her efforts on revealing who the murderer is and on solving the mystery of the city, citizens of which are transforming into cats when the night falls. Naomi also becomes able to transform into a cat and she decides to use this opportunity to solve the mystery. One of the attractions of the game is a direct line drawn between two parts – during the day the player is a human, he interacts with other citizens, and during the night he becomes a cat and gains access to previously inaccessible paths.
