  • For a game replete with darkness and some surprising gore, it also contains a great deal of comedic writing to balance out the experience. Ultimately, The Fall feels like you’re playing your way through a movie. Aside from a few control hiccups, it’s a playable movie in a genuinely good way.

  • Its deep and thoughtful explorations into the technicalities of AI are intelligent and surprisingly thought provoking. It’s unfortunately hindered by clunky mechanics and overly complicated puzzles that often border on the obtuse when it comes to the specifics required to finish them.

  • With its striking visual style and quality voice acting it draws you into a mysterious, albeit short tale, which is bound to satisfy should you have the patience to deal with its sometimes obscure puzzles and perfunctory combat. As the first game in a proposed trilogy, The Fall shows a lot of promise, and its riveting story will surely have its hooks in you upon its shocking conclusion.

  • The Fall Part One's minor gameplay shortcomings don't even begin to tarnish the sheen on everything else. It's a seductive old-school sci-fi yarn, with characters that somehow manage to represent greater ideas and exist as fully-formed beings. Even though two more episodes have been confirmed, the game ends on an exciting conclusion that could function either as a cliffhanger or a definitive finale.

  • The Fall amounts to another remarkable accomplishment on the indie scene, Over The Moon placing you in a unique tale where your curiosity sufficiently drives you through the experience. There’s still room for improvement, but with the promise of more episodic adventures we’re excited to see where the Canadian studio next take us.

  • Issues aside, this not a bad title by any means. An interesting story coupled with amazing gameplay makes this title well worth it. It makes for an excellent experience that keeps you thinking throughout. If you like puzzle solving with some combat mixed in, definitely give this game a shot.

  • The Fall pushes itself when it comes to providing a story worth sticking around for, but its excellent puzzle design and captivating setting is what’ll keep you anticipating the next installment. Over the Moon have begun something very special with The Fall and you’ll be looking out for ARID again even months after you finish this intriguing opening act.

  • Worth noting, the pacing is by no means perfect, with the ending coming off feeling especially rushed, but the rest of the experience makes good use of a slow, methodical approach. Atmospheric and appropriately lonely, with enough narrative weight to think on, this makes for some enjoyable point-and-click fun.

  • What The Fall offers in story and atmosphere is a little let down by some clunky controls. It’s an enjoyable exploration which will be lengthened by some difficult puzzles if you don’t use a guide, so by all means go for it if you didn’t try it on Wii U.

  • Depending on your gaming predilections, The Fall might be a worthwhile investment. If you're looking for a thoughtful sci-fi story and/or a point-and-click adventure in the LucasArts mold, and can tolerate the short running time, this is a good pick. If you want satisfying action, in the vein of Metroid, you may be left cold.

Take on the role of ARID, the artificial intelligence onboard a high-tech combat suit. ARID's program activates after crashing on an unknown planet. The human pilot within the combat suit is unconscious, and it is ARID's duty to protect him at all costs! As she progresses into her twisted and hostile surroundings, driven to find medical aid before it is too late, the realities of what transpired on this planet force ARID to reflect upon her own protocols.
