- The Diofield Chronicles has a solid foundation of mechanics that is hampered greatly by its poor balancing of difficulty, a cast of forgettable characters and a world that failed to draw me in with its lackluster presentation.
Jae Lee · Oct 27, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - The DioField Chronicle is a great real-time strategy game for consoles. It controls well, the stages aren’t too long, and there’s enough mechanical depth to make stage replays interesting. Although I couldn’t be bothered with the game’s story, the scenes themselves don’t last long and all of it can be skipped at any point.
Genghis Husameddin · Oct 21, 2022 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - The DioField Chronicle mixes the complexity of a slow-burn political thriller with a deceptively straightforward strategy game. I was pleasantly surprised with where my investment in the world of DioField led me, but pay-off off the battle mechanics does not match the narrative destination.
Jack Zustiak · Oct 13, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - I set my expectations for The DioField Chronicle relatively high, which is a recipe for disaster. However, I’m pleased to report that I enjoyed this game at every turn. This ambitious cast star in a narrative that is running a contest for how much wool they can pull over each other’s eyes, and I am here for it every step of the way.
Pyre Kavanagh · Oct 12, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Despite the occasional stumble, The DioField Chronicle turns convention on its side regularly enough that even the more familiar elements feel fresh much of the time. Players have regularly encountered evil empires, warmongering generals, sneaky alliances, and corrupt church officials within the genre, in classic RPG experiences ranging from Suikoden to Final Fantasy Tactics and beyond.
Jason Venter · Oct 11, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Not much stands out visually. You view battles from an isometric perspective, and from that angle, the units don’t make much of an impression. The diorama battlefields are kind of neat looking, but even with a variety of environments, they tend to be featureless, leaving a lot of empty space to fight in. The characters’ portraits take on that classic Square Enix look, so those are lovely.
Abraham Kobylanski · Oct 11, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - DioField's story is a tremendous slow burn that might turn people off, but the combat has enough depth and strategy to make up for it. The DioField Chronicle is easily one of the most unique games of the year and a breath of fresh air in the JRPG genre, even for its problems.
Hayes Madsen · Oct 07, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The story does a good job of highlighting your place in the conflict. I really enjoyed the payoff that comes with developing the party through research. The combat encounters are challenging without being frustrating. In short, I loved this game.
Allen Kesinger · Oct 04, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - The Diofield Chronicle is a very entertaining strategy title for PlayStation 5, and we thoroughly enjoyed playing through the game. We loved having only a small party to issue commands to on the fly, and we enjoyed the bite-sized missions and the fast gameplay.
Ibuki · Oct 03, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - DioField's storytelling style was specifically a highlight for me, and its take on tactical combat offers something different from its contemporaries. While its mission design, sidequest variety, and some skill systems hold it back, DioField is worth a try for anyone looking for something just a bit different in their tactical RPGs.
