- Going into this review I was afraid TERA Online would stick too closely to the standard MMO tropes. I feared that I’d make a character, slog around the tutorial, and ultimately be bored after a few hours. None of that happened. Instead, TERA did a fantastic job of pulling me in, keeping me around, and gaining my respect. It’s not a perfect title, as six years of existence have produced a few unavoidable quirks.
Jason Fanelli · Apr 15, 2018 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - I personally got a little bored later on, as the repetition definitely started getting to me, but as long as you keep your expectations in check and stop yourself from applying 2018 standards to it, there is fun to be had here. I just wish there was more of a reason for those who have already played it 3 years ago on their PC’s to return.
John Cantees · Apr 11, 2018 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Endgame content is fun, but not everyone wants to spend the vast majority of their time in an MMO grinding enhancement materials to maybe get one extra +1 to their gear. There is something to be said for the journey of getting there that this game has regrettably forgotten. But, hey, at least slamming other 65s into the dirt will be easier than ever for a while.
Ashley Gill · Apr 03, 2018 Reviewed on PS4, XB1Read full review - TERA's console launch may be off to a rough start, but the amazing combat system should keep players coming back for more, even for players that just want to enjoy an MMORPG without paying a dime.
Kai Powell · Apr 03, 2018 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - I'm happy that TERA discards the elements that make combat so tedious in other MMOs, but I wish it was bold enough to attempt to fix the many other shortcomings of the genre. If the action in TERA had a unique world, quality writing, or more interesting quests to back it up, it would be must-play; as it is, it's just a passing curiosity with some room for improvement.
Philip Kollar · Jun 21, 2012 Reviewed on PCRead full review - But then, if there's a lesson to take from the emergence of genuinely great free-to-play titles, it's that time is the most valuable resource you can ask of a player. TERA wastes your time, and charges £10 a month for the privilege. That makes TERA difficult to score. I want to raise that 64% every time I jump into a group, and lower it every time I think back to the long, lonely road to that point. In the end, I've settled somewhere in the middle of those two extremes.
Phil Savage · Jun 06, 2012 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Tera's an action-MMO that nails the “action” part and then manages a face-palm-inducing face-plant on all the other bits. Combat moves quickly and feels great, but dirt-dull quests, a generic, disjointed story, repetition, repetition, and repetition ensure that any fun you might stumble across is short-lived. ...Between impressive graphics and flashy battles, Tera has mountains of style. Substance, however, is still sadly lacking.
Nathan Grayson · May 25, 2012 Reviewed on PCRead full review - ...TERA is an enjoyable themepark MMO with fantastic combat and gorgeous visuals. It’s got plenty to do from level 1 to 60, the promise of great content to come, and some of the best action you’ll experience from any game on the market. There is a tough road ahead of En Masse with some heavy hitting AAA experiences coming down the pipe, but the team from Seattle should be proud. TERA stands mightily on its own as a unique, inherently fun, MMO experience.
William Murphy · May 23, 2012 Reviewed on PCRead full review - What the game does well it does very well, the action combat system being the foremost example of that. There’s no shortage of small missteps that interfered with my total satisfaction with the game, made even more annoying by the fact that most of them could have had simple fixes. But the good does significantly outweigh the bad, and if you’re looking for an MMO that plays very dynamically and differently from most of the pack, Tera is right up your alley.
Josh Laddin · May 18, 2012 Reviewed on PCRead full review - TERA is a game caught between MMO past and MMO future. Its action-based combat is a breath of fresh air for the genre, and makes tackling its giant enemy monsters all the more thrilling, but its quests are formulaic and repetitious.... Rough around the corners and boasting some theoretically nifty endgame features, time will either make TERA great or see it slip below the waves like so many others.

About the game
Trailers & Screenshots:
TERA takes the fight beyond whack-a-mole monotony with enhanced aiming, dodging, and tactical timing to create intense and rewarding combat. Unlike other MMOs, you can use your controller or keyboard and mouse to control the action like never before. With all the depth you expect from a traditional MMO, plus the intense gratification of action combat, TERA changes all the rules.
