- While I still have some concerns with Team Sonic Racing, I can’t deny that I’ve come around to it. I’ve sunk over 15 hours, across several extended play sessions, and had quite a bit of fun doing so. The $39.99 launch price is more than fair for what’s included here. If you’re looking for an enjoyable alternative after playing Mario Kart 8 for the past five years, Team Sonic Racing smoothly drifts its way to a decisive silver trophy. Start your engines!

Older Sonic racing games are far superior, offering more content and are not held back by the team-based racing gimmick. There are better kart racers on the market, and with games like like the Crash Team Racing remake right around the corner, itâs hard to recommend Team Sonic Racing, even at its budget price. Hardcore Sonic the Hedgehog fans may still want to give it a look after a price drop, though.

If you're really into the genre or have two dedicated friends to play with it might be a fun experience but you aren't going to get anything here you don't already have from somewhere else.

What’s here is a love letter to all things Sonic, not just in character variation, but stage design, audio presentation, and much more besides. Despite some online teething issues, some questionable AI behavior, and the odd poor design choice, you’ll not find a better kart racer this side of a Nintendo system.

There's no other racing title I can compare that aspect to. Sonic Team Racing is different from its predecessors, but this is a fresh evolution of the series that surprises and exhilarates in a brand new way. Sonic has seen a lot of changes over the years, and this is one of the best yet whether you just want a new kart racer or are in need of a 3D Sonic title because it's pretty dang close.

It’s packed with a lot of modes, racers and inventive tracks, as well as a neat gameplay twist. Is this game a great Mario Kart substitute, though? Well, if you decide to buy any other version other than the Switch one, absolutely, thanks to the improved framerate.

It fails to meet the heights set by its predecessor, but it's still quick, peppy and a delight to play. If you're a fan of the characters or kart racers in general, Team Sonic Racing is absolutely worth a shot. Most of its flaws are nitpicks or easily overlooked, and it's hard to dislike such a charming game. Now if only we could only get some non-Sonic characters next time….

It’s a fast and exciting roller coaster of a racer with the style and spunk you’d expect from the Sonic series. While it doesn’t perform on the Switch as well as on other consoles, that doesn’t change the fun of speeding through this iconic universe.
