  • For what it’s worth, Syndicate is a solid shooter with some mildly interesting features not found in other similar games. The co-op truly shines, but the single-player campaign ends up feeling quite bland. Still, the co-op is enough to recommend you check out this shooter.

  • Overall, Syndicate for the Xbox 360 is a good shooter, but I would not consider it a great one. The reality of the market makes Syndicate feel far too familiar, as it possesses the same elements seen in so many other shooters already on store shelves. Despite this, the combat in Syndicate is a blast and the co-op mode was perfectly executed while the sounds in the game are wonderful and the game’s breach apps manage to inject some life into the game.

  • In the end, I was left feeling a bit unsatisfied with Syndicate, but at the same time, I didn’t completely regret the time I spent in its corporate-run future. I typically don’t mind short campaigns, but an experience just over 5 hours that doesn’t leave you wanting more is certainly not a good thing. As a whole, Syndicate is a functional shooter that employs some interesting concepts but fails to really flesh them out to their fullest.

  • As you may or may not have noticed, I haven't brought up the fact of Syndicate being a reboot much. There's honestly not much to say on this, it's simply a disappointment that instead of using the property to create something interesting that such a safe, and in the end worse, route was opted for. Syndicate is a decent albeit uninspired shooter. While there are a few highlights, it mostly feels bland and homogenized from other games and cyberpunk fiction.

  • I really want a sequel to Syndicate, but not because I loved this particular game. Its premise has so much more to give. Syndicate is an incredibly ambitious, stylized, but definitely flawed game. I’m confident with another attempt, Syndicate could be something really special. I just hope that it gets the chance.

There are times when Syndicate threatens to become a less typical game. Some missions begin as noirish stakeouts, or see you exploring an enemy base while disguised, and it seems for a moment that Starbreeze’s ability to embody players within an avatar might be turned to a more ambitious cause than merely making for extra-thrilling gunplay.

  • A compelling co-operative component – fuelled by some really clever clan and character development features – help to ensure the longevity of the title, though the concept of classic missions is unlikely to win over faithful Syndicate fans. It’s an above average monthly achiever; a confident performer that pushes itself hard, but never quite goes the extra mile to secure employee of the month.

  • The smart players will rise to the challenge and feel like they've been appropriately rewarded for their prowess. The campaign gives you a great look at an interesting world, though its abrupt, too-clean ending feels out of place. It's a somewhat disappointing reward for an otherwise exciting adventure that puts a terrific and fun spin on first-person shooting.

  • Business is blooming, literally and technically. The world glows from an over abundance of electronics on display, and the world glows from plenty of post-processing. The look is corporate clean with the later excursions to the streets getting a little more grimy. Sterile as it may be, scenes can become muddled, even out of DART vision, with HUD-like floating tags appended to the most inane non-interactive objects. Animations and particularly faces look good, with developer Starbreeze hamming it up with the first-person theatrics with jumps, slides, and death throes.

  • Starbreeze may have opted to go the route of this generation's most profitable genre for its Syndicate reboot, but the soul of the series has survived. Its well worn narrative trappings hold your attention for the most part, but the real treat is in the execution of Syndicate's gameplay. Syndicate manages to mesh the spirit of the old with the style of the new. It's not the return some fans would have hoped for, but it expands the franchise into new territory where business is booming.
