- A really fun playing baseball game that mixes arcade with authenticity while featuring some of the sports most legendary players while featuring satisfying pitching and batting mechanics. The new and returning ballparks look great too and add to the environment. However, lack of features like a proper create-a-player mode, Home Run Derby mode and even something small like Replay Mode leaves Super Mega 4 Baseball just shy of a Grand Slam but is a good solid swing up the middle for a base hit to give the team the lead.
Colin Mieczkowski · Jun 22, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Super Mega Baseball 4 will reward those willing to invest the time to personalize it exactly how they want it. It’s that, paired with its very entertaining arcade gameplay loop, that ensures this fourth installment doesn’t drop the ball – even if it never quite feels like the seismic upgrade we’d expected when developer Metalhead Software was acquired.
Sammy Barker · Jun 18, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Super Mega Baseball 4 has a bit more competition on the Nintendo Switch than it used to with the likes of MLB The Show 22 and MLB The Show 23 but it’s still the king of arcade style baseball games. Since MLB has moved beyond the R.B.I. Baseball series, there’s really not much else in this genre.
Justin Sharp · Jun 16, 2023 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Overall, Super Mega Baseball 4 is the best arcade-inspired baseball game on the market. It also does a great job with its simulation aspects while keeping the Super Mega Baseball form. My favorite part of the game, aside from its strong gameplay, is the amount of customization there is. Whether you want to customize players, teams, leagues, or difficulty levels, there is something you can change. Overall, Super Mega Baseball 4 is a great baseball videogame experience, especially if you want a departure from the MLB.
Michael Chow · Jun 14, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - When it comes down to it, Super Mega Baseball 4 is improved, but not that improved. I’m not looking to downgrade, and I kind of wish I was playing it right now instead of writing this. However, I still have a wishlist for the next installment. This one feels like such an unneeded upgrade. Most of it feels like it could have just been in a patch. The more appreciable additions weren’t must-haves, and some elements feel more rickety.
Zoey Handley · Jun 09, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Despite some disappointing option and feature exclusions, Super Mega Baseball 4 is a strong alternative to the annualized sim-facing MLB game from Sony. Fans of retro-style arcade baseball games will find a lot to love, and roster customization enthusiasts have their new gold standard.
Brian Shea · Jun 06, 2023 Reviewed on Switch - Super Mega Baseball 4 is an outstanding entry in the series and the best to date. I have enjoyed each entry and spend more time playing these than the licensed Show games. I really love customizing my team and taking them through a franchise season. The updates and additions here really flesh out the series and I am excited for the future. I wonder if they will ever tackle another sport. Would love to see some Super Mega Football in the future.
Ken McKown · Jun 06, 2023 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Super Mega Baseball 4 is mostly more of the same, but when we’re talking about such a strong series, that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The excellent core gameplay here is as great as ever, and the fantastic new Shuffle Draft mode combined with a ton of baseball legends to take on the field should grab the attention of both new players and existing fans of the series.
Andrew Thornton · Jun 06, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - With Super Mega Baseball 4, Metalhead has another solid baseball title on its hands. The existing modes get enough overall improvements to make them worthwhile, while Shuffle Draft keeps things fresh for a long time. The introduction of pros is awesome, but the game did well to not forget the originals, while the gameplay remains rock solid. Baseball fans of all types who aren't hung up on only playing with the current pros will enjoy this title.
Cody Medellin · Jun 05, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Super Mega Baseball 4, like its predecessors, has become the new standard for arcade sports games upon its release. Metalhead Software has refined near perfection over the past few years and I’m in love with the lineup of MLB Legends and the new addition of Shuffle Draft.
