  • It’s okay in bursts but gets annoying after about five minutes. Overall the games shortcomings keep it from being a great experience, but not from having fun from time to time.

  • At $19.99, Strike Suit Zero is definitely recommended, unless of course you've already played this on your PC. It comes with the expanded Heroes of the Fleet missions, packing in even more hours into the attractively priced title. It's no show stopper, but I appreciate the game's commitment of sticking to the genre's old-school roots.

Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut is a decent game that simply needs more variety. The controls and combat are enjoyable, but the mission design is so uninspired that it is hard to play for extended periods of time. I also found myself forcing my way to the end. There is a substantial amount of content, but I never felt the want to keep trudging through it.

  • The enhancements here have been extremely well done, with a more coherent and complete campaign, slicker graphics, more content and a fantastically remixed soundtrack. ...Sure, it has some flaws, namely its reliance on the same mechanics that never really change over the course of its 10 hour campaign. But even so, Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut still manages to pull off a fun experience that blends action-arcade and simulation just enough to please both crowds.

  • Although it can get tough, and can seem repetitive at times, there are far worse games out there. Those who are fans of space combat games (e.g. Homeworld, Wing Commander or X-Wing) can do no harm by checking out this game on the Xbox One, and those who haven’t delved into the world of space combat to date should take a close look at this title too, as there is some fun to be had. Overall it’s not a bad way to kick off the ID@Xbox program and I look forward to more games coming.

  • Sometimes, simple is better. Maintaining focus on frantic space battles that move quickly and wrap up before you have time to regret what you're playing would have made Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut more energetic and compelling. Piling on enemies and tossing in the Transformers-inspired ship just clogs up what could have been a charming, if deeply predictable, space shooter.

  • Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut delivers on the promise of offering intense space combat to those long overdue for a fix. Unfortunately, crushing difficulties, confusing design choices, and a steep learning curve keep this from being the great game it was so close to being. The highs are undeniably out of this world, but the missteps are sure to intermittently bring you back down to Earth.

  • Strike Suite Zero: Director’s Cut is a hard one to score. The actual gameplay mechanics are a lot of fun, but wrapped around an uninspiring game that becomes repetitive long before its 13 main missions are over. This was the biggest issue for me, and the reason the score isn’t higher. Born Ready Games have the foundation for something brilliant, and I hope there’s a sequel in the works with a bit more variation.

  • Space combat is coming back, and it’s coming back for everyone. Strike Suit Zero is a wonderful reintroduction. Though its obviously-not-AAA budget is betrayed by the lo-fi storytelling device of dishing out exposition via radio chatter, and it has an obsession with making you take out turrets on things, it’s pretty fantastic, and one of the best titles on next-gen right now.

  • Still, Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut never purports to be anything other than a one trick metal pony. Anyone hungry for some interstellar giant robot savagery will leave satisfied, and sometimes that's all a man or woman needs in their life. That, and a crème brûlée. Yum.
