- Stonefly is a beautiful work of art with an oddly but enchanting gameplay waiting to be experienced!
Juan Reyesretana · Jul 04, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - It’s to Flight School Studio’s credit that, though the clashes at the game’s core left me underwhelmed, the whole thing didn’t feel hollowed-out. This is down to Annika, who sits at its heart and drives it on.
Josh Wise · Jun 24, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Stonefly is a thoroughly unique game that has novel gameplay ideas and a wonderful story. Dancing around the world while piloting your mech, trying to find emotional catharsis for your heroine while also beating up some bugs so you can get more resources to upgrade your current ride is a heck of a gameplay loop. It’s well worth experiencing if you want a chill adventure.
Neal Ronaghan · Jun 20, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - In conclusion, Stonefly is an above average indie title that might be best played on a more portable device encouraging smaller play sessions for grinding minerals. I played on Xbox Series S and had no issues with glitches apart from finding my way out of the intended map a few times. The game would have greatly benefited from an additional polish phase since it feels vastly empty at times and can be annoying to navigate.
Ross Hodge · Jun 12, 2021 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Stonefly delights the eyes and ears. But the gameplay mix, despite offering some depth, can’t do the same. The combat simply isn’t much fun, and exploring runs the risks of glitches. This strange premise just isn’t executed that well. I’d stick with Creature in the Well until Stonefly gets a discount and patch.
Trevor Gould · Jun 11, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Stonefly takes flight in a fantastical world where you glide amongst giant trees, branches twisting improbable pirouettes in the sky. But the initial wonder soon sputters under frustrating combat design and runs aground against the mundane grind of its progression structure.
David Wildgoose · Jun 08, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Stonefly left me in two minds. The feeling you get when you're effortlessly bouncing from branch to branch is unlike anything else I've played. I love the concept too, the idea of a mech that is not simply a killing machine, but one that has been inspired by the gentleness of nature is something I've not seen realised like this before. It's a shame that the struggle of getting materials, and lack of variety in missions, sucks the fun out of an otherwise chill game.
Rachel Watts · Jun 02, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - A wonderful coming of age adventure wrapped up in a gameplay loop that never asks much but delivers a gorgeous world to explore. Stonefly isn't going to save the world but it might make your insides a wee bit warmer.
Ed Orr · Jun 02, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - While you can spend a lot of time gliding from tree to tree and mushroom to mushroom, there’s always a risk of tripping an encounter that will force you to battle bugs in surprisingly intense combat, and even the exploration sequences can be stressful if you can’t figure out how to advance.
Nicola Kapron · Jun 02, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - It is a little rough in places and there's room for improvement, but I'll gladly play something that's as weird and creative as this over another generic triple-A open-world game. If the idea of a mech game crossed with Fern Gully sounds like a good time to you, then I'd say Stonefly is definitely worth a try.
