- Steins;Gate is an excellent game, provided you know what you're in for. It may not provide a deep set of gameplay systems, but its story interactions are more seamless than other ambitious narrative-focused games like Indigo Prophecy. If you're ok with reading a lot and you have an open mind toward Japanese culture, you'll find a lot to like in Steins;Gate.
Campbell Bird · Dec 02, 2016 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - If you enjoy a good time travel yarn and are willing to be patient with the initial build-up, Steins;Gate is an incredible experience. It took me a week to drag myself through the first few hours, but once the story got cooking, I cleared the rest of the game over a weekend binge simply because I couldn't get the thing out of my mind until I saw it through.
Shaun Musgrave · Sep 27, 2016 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Overall, Steins; Gate could be considered the pinnacle of visual novels with its brilliant storytelling combined with beautiful visuals. While visual novels may not be for everyone given its minimal gameplay, the game does enough to attract new players to the genre. For watchers of the anime, Steins; Gate remains a fresh, deeper experience; likewise, those experiencing the game for the first time will no doubt be in for an unforgettable experience.
Michael Chow · Sep 20, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - In large part, I enjoyed Steins;Gate. Its first half is smartly told, its characters are genuinely likable, and I enjoyed learning about science in humorous ways. I just wish that the dating elements had been more smoothly incorporated into the established narrative and not forced on the player. Sometimes, it’s enough to just be friends.
Meghan Sullivan · Sep 11, 2015 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - Fans of fellow Vita visual novels like Zero Escape and Danganronpa should make this a priority. They might miss the heavier emphasis on gameplay in those titles, but on the other hand, there are no distractions from the rich narrative. Time travel is very hard to do right in fiction, and Steins;Gate is an exemplary instance of this intriguing concept given the attention and care it deserves.
Jowi Meli · Aug 27, 2015 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - With that said, Steins;Gate is an absolute master class in storytelling and world building in a game. It deserves to be experienced by anyone who claims to enjoy a good sci-fi adventure, and those who don’t and take a chance with Steins;Gate might just find that they just haven’t experienced the right one until this very moment.
Jae Lee · Aug 26, 2015 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Steins;Gate is one of the best games I have played on the PlayStation Vita. A tale of time-travelling teens, you will find that there is a lot more depth to this game than meets the eye. The lack of 'gameplay' will put some people off, but if you are a fan of Visual Novels or love a good story, then Steins;Gate is a game you need to play! El Psy Kongroo!
Charlie Large · Jun 15, 2015 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - Steins;Gate is a taxing game, but it's also quite beautiful, from the talented Japanese voice cast (no English dub, unfortunately) to artist huke's unorthodox visuals. It's an exemplary visual novel with a thrilling premise, memorable characters, and a fantastic "true" ending that may very well move you to tears
Brittany Vincent · Apr 16, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Steins;Gate is one of the best visual novels on the market. This localization has been a long time coming and it’s been worth the four-year wait. The characters are compelling, the presentation values are downright superb and the story is a wild ride of ups, downs, and plenty of weirds. Still, it isn’t without its flaws including its slow start and a few clichéd story moments.
Bradly Hale · Apr 07, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Visual novels may not be everyone's cup of tea, but anyone that loves delving deep into the world of a great book will be right at home with this intriguing science fiction adventure, being drawn into the heart of the time travel tale thanks to narrative of the finest calibre and some first class voice acting to bring the excellent cast of characters to life. Steins;Gate even successfully implements more user interaction than expected from a game of this ilk, leading to some important decisions needing to be made, and thus the uncovering of various different endings, encouraging repeat play to unveil everything. The push of a button can change the course of history; are you brave enough to push it?
