- There's a lot to like about Star Trek Online, even for players who aren't hardcore Star Trek fans or crazy people like me, but it does ask to be put up with to a certain extent. As for the console versions, it's also not all there yet, almost literally. At the same time, it's hard to name a more overtly generous free-to-play title on the current market, and it's worth a shot, for both Trek devotees and the merely Warp-curious.
Josh Tolentino · Sep 29, 2016 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Frankly, Star Trek Online is a game that casual and dedicated Star Trek fans should check out. While it doesn’t beat out Neverwinter as far as mechanics goes, it allows players to inhabit a fascinating facsimile of the universe, exploring, undertaking complex missions and always boldly going forward (because we can’t find reverse).
Jason Bohn · Sep 28, 2016 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - All things considered, the most disappointing aspect of Star Trek Online is how much potential one can sense while playing it. There are moments throughout the game that made me want to like it, such as the fiery explosions of defeated spacecraft. Ultimately, however, it is plagued with a number of issues that constantly upstage its positive qualities. Still, for a free game, who's complaining?
Jared Elliott · Sep 23, 2016 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - A smattering of memorable moments in 50+ hours of game time simply isn't good enough for me to be able to recommend Star Trek Online to MMO fans. It's quite a gorgeous game, but that novelty evaporates, and what's left is repetitive, and simple in all the wrong parts.
Nick Kolan · Feb 17, 2010 Reviewed on PCRead full review - It isn't bugs that make Star Trek Online feel unfinished, however. It's the inherent shallowness. It's light, airy, and simple--attributes that might attract you at first but only let you down when you find that the game is more boring than bold. Some of the flaws will improve in time; MMOGs are, by their very nature, evolving creatures.
Kevin VanOrd · Feb 17, 2010 Reviewed on PCRead full review - If you can look past the stiff animations and bland ground combat, there’s a lot for Star Trek fans to be excited about. If you only having a passing interest in the show, well it’s not going to set your world on fire. None Trekky Sci-fi fans should definitely play Bioware’s superb Mass Effect series instead. For those who have been waiting to sign up to a detailed recreation of Starfleet and search for adventure throughout the final frontier though, this is a worthy experience and one which will not disappoint the diehards.
Mat Cooper · Oct 02, 2016 Reviewed on XB1 - A sexy graphics engine, awesome sound effects and musical score, Star Trek based lore, constant updates, planned expansions. All good signs of a great MMORPG in the making. At the beginning, this game was looking like a 7/10. But like any MMO, you have to be a little forgiving of the first few levels to really give the game a chance. It’s hard to portray the expanse of content within just a few levels.
Calvin Robinson · Mar 12, 2010 Reviewed on PCRead full review - It's a unique offering then, in many ways a loveable one, and for Star Trek fans if not MMO gamers it's a great social experience. It makes its licence a blessing, not a burden, but it's a blessing this rickety voyage into the unknown badly needs.
Oli Welsh · Feb 05, 2010 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Star Trek: Online may be far from perfect, but it's made a good opening move, and the content yet to come is set to make things even better. PvP could do with a little work, as it seems more like an afterthought at the moment, and there are one or two other things that are little more than token gestures right now. Regardless though, this is as fine a homage to one of Sci-fi's great franchises are you can get in an MMO format.
Joe Robinson · Feb 04, 2010 Reviewed on PCRead full review - USS Enterprise the franchise is still boldly going where no man has gone before. Unfortunately this MMORPG has decided to play it a lot safer and as a result words like easy and boring can be attached to it. After playing the game twice in the last few years I am impressed by how Cryptic Studios have improved, added and streamlined things; unfortunately, Star Trek Online requires better mission designs to make it interesting.
