  • Overall, these remakes of the Spyro trilogy are great, and new and old fans alike will probably have a lot of fun with them. I know I did. But that doesn’t change the fact that certain bits and pieces of dated mechanics and designs do hold these games back ever so slightly from being almost as great in 2019 as they were in 1998.

  • These words hold true as we near the end of 2019. And the added functionality of a handheld option further the possible enjoyment more than ever before. Comparing the PS4 and Nintendo Switch version reveals that you don't lose out on much if played on either system. So, whether you have played these games before and want to again or missed out its release on other systems, I definitely recommend the Switch port as a valid option.

  • Spyro Reignited Trilogy makes for a very compelling package. It contains three classic 3D platformers that are still just as fun to play as ever, but with a beautiful new coat of paint. The games aren’t long at all individually, but the whole shebang will likely take most people between 20-25 hours to get through, depending on their level of interest in getting 100%. Fans of the genre or people nostalgic for the original games will absolutely find a lot to like in these remakes.

  • The Reignited Trilogy feels well at home on the Nintendo Switch. Spyro is still fun to play in a world that looks great. Incremental improvements on all fronts, gameplay and otherwise, keeps the adventure throughout engaging, if a little cumbersome at times.

  • $40 for three different games is a great deal just about anywhere, but this is arguably the best remaster on the market. Despite the camera issues, Spyro Reignited Trilogy is an excellent collection for nostalgic fans and newcomers alike.

  • Reignited is a very well done remaster and was well worth the time and effort put in by the developers. Everything looks, feels, and sounds as if it could have come out this year as a brand new game. All three games are fun though the first and second are the strongest entries in the series. As platformers go these games aren’t incredibly challenging, but there are some spots which can be fairly difficult especially when trying to 100% the games.

  • Perhaps some of the ideas and features presented in Year of the Dragon could be expanded on in a brand new Spyro the Dragon adventure, and it would be interesting to see what developer Toys for Bob could do if it decided to revive the series proper. If nothing else, the studio’s excellent work on Spyro: Reignited Trilogy shows the franchise in good hands, and a new game could address some of the poorly-aged elements and other fan complaints, like the the Reignited Trilogy‘s lack of subtitles.

There is something magical about this trilogy. Sure Crash had more fanfare, but Spyro feels like a piece of history lost. Going back to these games was a pure joyful experience. Whether it was my fatigue of current titles or just that I crave colorful platformers, I cannot recommend this game enough. Even with its blemishes it was a title that I spent the most time smiling while playing.

  • Following Crash’s epic comeback, Spyro’s Reignited Trilogy faithfully brings back the purple dragon’s first three games with an outstanding level of care and attention to detail. With some minor issues to the side, this trilogy is a treasure trove for any fan of classic platformers. There’s a vast amount of exciting content on offer here, content that will keep you entertained for hours on end, and then some.

  • Spyro: Reignited Trilogy is another win from Activision. It manages to modernize what made the original Spyro games so memorable while staying to its roots. Some parts haven't aged as well, but it's a testament to how strong game design never ages.
