  • Sproggiwood is a funny roguelite dungeon crawler with cute visuals, six distinct classes, a base-building element, and a mysterious story inspired by Finnish mythology.

  • Overall, I enjoyed exploring Sproggiwood for all the reasons that roguelikes work, like the excitement of random encounters and the thrill of completing a difficult mission. Sproggi, my villagers, the enemies, and even the dangerous bosses were adorable. But I ultimately found the game a bit too repetitive to really love my Sproggiwood adventures.

  • Sproggiwood isn’t entirely ideal for a mobile audience - for instance, you can’t save partway through a dungeon - but it’s still a fairly easy recommendation to make. It’s simple to learn yet you’re soon enticed into playing more. Being devoid any in-app purchases also means that price tag doesn’t seem so pricey after all.

  • It gets to the heart of one of the big strengths of the genre, the feeling of having to MacGyver an immediate solution from whatever you've got at hand. It's a rare title that can satisfy players of varying skill levels, but I think Sproggiwood fits the bill nicely.

  • All in all, it was surprisingly good. The game works because it manages to be a roguelike that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Ouch at that price, but hey, it does pack a bit of variety (six characters) and there are not any in-app purchases or ads to contend with.

  • The dungeon crawling, while light on strategy, is still extremely engaging thanks to the variety of items, classes, and randomization options found on every level. The finite stages are perfect for short-burst gameplay and the touch controls are a flawless fit for the turn-based, single-square movement. Thanks to the forgiving difficulty and appeal to roguelike newcomers, there’s really no way to lose: but it is easy to get lost in Sproggiwood.

  • Sproggiwood is a bright, gorgeous looking game, and it handles brilliantly on mobile. It's never fiddly, and the twists it adds to the roguelike formula means it offers up a deep, engaging experience that fits in your pocket. If you're a fan of roguelikes, then this is a must buy. And if you're considering dipping your toe into that particular pond for the first time, this is a damn good place to start.
