- Sportsfriends is one of the most dynamic and addictingly deep local multiplayer games I’ve ever played. ...Between DualShock controllers, Move controllers, groups of players, and ample space, the hurdles to fully enjoy Sportsfriends are high, but clearing them gives way to an incredible party game full of yelling, celebrating, fist-pumping, and innumerable expletives; the combined cornerstone of all great parties.
Scott Thompson · May 14, 2014 Reviewed onRead full review - Sportsfriends is a love letter to the zany retro sports games that were played via local multiplayer on consoles in days long past. ...Agreed, Sportsfriends overall feels like something that hardcore and casual gamers alike, or even non-gamers, can enjoy. ...This is a brilliant party game. This is also a brilliant use of the Move controller. I have been waiting for a game that uses the Move in such a creative way and shines a light into the dark and vast realm of neglected or unimagined uses for the Move.
Chandler Wood · May 13, 2014 Reviewed on PS4, PS3Read full review - Sportsfriends is a party game for the type of people that appear in Nintendo Wii commercials – but real-life is never quite that perfect. As such, this is a fun package, but one that will rely on the right kind of investment from your buddies if it’s to become the life and soul of your social gathering. With a low price, it may be worth splitting the cost between close pals for an evening’s worth of entertainment – just make sure that you know what you’re getting into first.
Mat Growcott · May 09, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - While some games are stronger than others, they each create situations befitting a gathering of friends: BaraBariBall inspires trash talk, Hokra challenges you to coordinate with your team while your enemy can listen in, Pole Riders encourages players to embrace silliness and loosen up, and Joust will take you back in time to playing tag on the playground.
S. Prell · May 08, 2014 Reviewed on PS3 - Still, as a statement of intent it is extraordinary, and feels characteristic of what Sportsfriends sets out to achieve – a realisation that simplicity and good company are the root ingredients of enjoying games, and that far from being decisive, visual sophistication might actually be entirely irrelevant.
Edge Staff · May 07, 2014 Reviewed on PS4 - Sportsfriends is the most-fun party game I’ve played since the days of the original Mario Party. It mixes the competitiveness of real sports with video game conventions and is the absolute best reason to own a PS camera on the PS4. PS3 owners will be glad to finally get some use out of their Move controllers, although the PS4 version is recommended due to it using both the Move and DualShock 4.
Jeremy Peeples · May 07, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Despite the fact that I don't think I'll be playing Barabariball or Super Pole Riders for very long, Hokra's level editor gives it legs, and Johann Sebastian Joust shouldn't be missed by anyone who enjoys having company over. It's a very uneven package in the sense that there could have either been a few more games and a few could have been better, but honestly -- $15 isn't a terrible price just for Joust alone.
Chris Carter · May 06, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Sportsfriends hardly feels like a video game, and that's what makes it so special. It's an experience that anyone can enjoy, regardless of their gaming experience, totally irrespective of their specialty at sports or team-based games. It isn't just an excuse to stay in and skip a party on a Friday night with a few friends. Sportsfriends is the party.
Megan Farokhmanesh · May 06, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - On the one hand, it’s a shame that Sportsfriends limits itself so much with its hardware and human requirements. On the other, it’s admirable that its creators feel so strongly about local, cooperative play that they eschewed any single-player and online multiplayer components. In the right setting, Sportsfriends is a delight; there are few other experiences with as much silliness and simple, smile-inducing gameplay.
Rich Grisham · May 06, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Sportsfriends is great in large part because of its simplicity, which allows just about anybody to play its games, even if they have little or no prior experience with video games. But most of Sportsfriends' brilliance reveals itself in how enjoyable it can be whether you win or not. ...Every game was entertaining on its own, and good times were had throughout.
