  With visually appealing designs, Cyanide Studios did a wonderful job with bringing the dark atmosphere of the Blood Angels vs Genestealers to life. Topped up with fairly decent voice work, a solid game design, good writing and a plethora of things to do, Space Hulk: Tactics has got a lot of things right. With working out a few kinks, and hopefully a more active online presence, you’ll certainly be getting your monies worth for this title.

  Ultimately I think fans of the 40K universe and Space Hulk will be satisfied, it just might need some time to iron out the AI bugs. If this is your first go at Space Hulk it is an excellent place to start but you have to be willing to learn to walk again as it takes no prisoners.

  Way Too Many Games

  All in all, Space Hulk: Tactics is the same game that’s been released again and again in some way or another for the last 25+ years. This time, it comes with a wide variety of modes, the ability to play as both Marines and Genestealers, across multiple Chapters and Broods. This might not revolutionize the Space Hulk brand, but it is the definitive way to experience this staple of the grim darkness of the future, where there is only war.

  Nevertheless, taken in reasonable doses, like the board game it’s based on, Space Hulk: Tactics is a rewarding and satisfying strategy game, whether you’re purging the unclean or punching your extendable jaws through an intergalactic fascist’s face. Thanks to its board game roots it’s a more claustrophobic experience than other turn-based strategy games, but set foot aboard this Space Hulk and you’ll have nothing to lose but your spleen.

  While it isn’t going to be blowing the doors off of the tactical strategy genre, Space Hulk: Tactics is a perfectly adequate game. Thanks to a solid combat engine, good writing, twin-headed campaign, and level designer, players will certainly be getting their monies worth for the forty-dollar price tag. Now gear up and get back out there, brother. You’ve an entire species to defend!

  Space Hulk: Tactics is a title that I’m sure would grow a faithful following regardless of its quality. Thankfully for Space Hulk fans, this title is worth their time and is an enjoyable game on its own merits. While there are a few setbacks that end up hampering the experience, the game gives players tools to create the kind of experience they want or to seek out fresh challenges other people have created.

  Space Hulk: Tactics is unlike anything else on the market, for better and for worse. The game lacks a decent mission structure and its slow pace wont be for everyone, but in the face of everything that the game gets right, the few problems within are easy to overlook. There’s a vast amount of content to work through, content that’s both unique and faithful to its source material.

  As a tactics game, the challenge and depth of Space Hulk Tactics is spot-on. The characters and levels look great. Each unit type has plenty of cool abilities to create vast possibilities for approaching a problem. Every map is laid out in such a way as to force both teams to constantly make interesting decisions.
