- Sonic Superstars draws upon its classic roots and wears that inspiration on a sleeve. The cooperative play is superb, but the unimaginative zones and underwhelming battle mode prove the stage a superstar performs on matters.
Yasmine Hubbard · Nov 07, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - The new ideas brought to the table don’t work, and multiplayer is only fun for the person out in front. Honestly though, without split-screen and how Sonic levels are traditionally designed, it was never going to work having just the one screen for four characters all at once. This is just one bad idea in a Sonic game rife with them.
Richard Dobson · Oct 31, 2023 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - While Sonic Superstars demonstrates creativity and innovation in the Classic Sonic formula, it falls short of reaching the heights set by its predecessors. Some levels are just frustrating and not enjoyable. What we really need is simply Sonic Mania 2.
Ian Wray · Oct 29, 2023 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Sonic Superstars doesn't do much to wow players when it comes to 2D stage design or mechanics. Still, the new gameplay features it brings to the table are fun enough for a decent experience for all kinds of players. While this game is quite safe in its approach, it still can be a decent time for everyone involved.
Gerrit Menk · Oct 29, 2023 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Sonic Superstars is a game that understands the broad strokes of 16-bit Sonic games, but not any of the finer details.
Timothy Monbleau · Oct 27, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Overall, Sonic Superstars features some of the fun Sonic chaos that many players will be looking for, but many of the key-selling points mentioned for this title specifically, fall short. While the levels are new designs, they still lack a level of uniqueness and creativity to elevate them into being memorable. Additionally, the co-op option for the main storyline of Sonic Superstars is likely to only cause additional frustrations.
KAITLYN PETERSON · Oct 25, 2023 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - It’s safe to say that Sonic Superstars is one of the better Sonic games available. In fact, it might even be the best Sonic game since the original trilogy, outside of Sonic Mania at least.
Richard Seagrave · Oct 24, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Sonic Superstars is a great outing for the little blue hedgehog with its share of minor issues. The bottom line is that longtime fans of Sonic will not want to miss out on his latest 2D adventure.
Michael Nicolosi · Oct 23, 2023 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Sonic Superstars is a decent Sonic game, but it is not the return to former heights that some would expect. It offers entertainment and fun, but is marred by the action being slowed down quite a lot, interrupting the flow, and boss fights that drag on and feel like a throwback instead of an evolution.
