- And what's there is great--an expansive, funny adventure that appeals to kids while having a surplus of wit and charm that can directly engage older players. I had an excellent time playing co-op with my son in Skylanders Trap Team, but if you don't have a little rugrat, don't let it dissuade you from playing. There's plenty of joy to be had for grown-ups in Trap Team, and more than a few laughs as well.
Randolph Ramsay · Oct 30, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - With a more intuitive – not to mention, convenient – core gimmick, Skylanders’ fourth instalment is a solid outing for the series, dispelling fears that the Activision power seller is succumbing to fatigue. For fans, it’s yet another all-round improvement, but Trap Team also serves as a perfect entry point for newcomers.
Jim Hargreaves · Oct 20, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Skylanders: Trap Team is still a fun game, it’s bright and breezy and easy to get the kids into. But so much is locked away and what is left is pretty familiar to be honest. The few new ideas are welcome but not enough to differentiate it from its predecessors.
Lee Abrahams · Oct 18, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - To add insult to injury, the revised focus on the new toys can make your previous investments feel disappointingly redundant. You're still able to use all your existing characters in general gameplay, of course, but with its sights set so squarely on traps and Trap Masters more content feels locked behind the new toys than ever before. If you want to get the most out of Trap Team, be prepared to invest in a substantial amount of new kit.
David Scammell · Oct 17, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Skylanders: Trap Team brings enough new tricks to keep Activision’s cash cow entertaining for another year, but we sense that there may need to be some more meaningful changes next time around. For now, though, kids and adults alike are going to love this charming romp – even if wallets will be hit harder than ever before. It turns out that you can buy happiness after all.
Greg Giddens · Oct 15, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Trap Team also continues the trend of providing excellent 3D platforming action, which is quite unique in today’s current gaming environment. The game also provides new mini-games like Skystone Smash and the lock puzzles, which can get very addicting in no time. With a very impressive base game and the ability to expand upon it with the many available ancillary figures and traps, Skylanders: Trap Team is a tornado of fun that is bound to pull in kids and adults alike.
Dean James · Oct 13, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - It’ll certainly carry fans through to 2015 where Activision has new surprises waiting, without a doubt. Even if you’re as disappointed as I am by the thin layer of gameplay added with Trap Gems, it’s hard to deny the wealth of charm, intelligence, and generation-spanning humor Trap Team manages to accomplish this year.
Daniel Bischoff · Oct 11, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Even with these quirks Trap Team is still the best game in the series to date. Sure it is yet another massive investment, but I am glad to see that the team continues to improve the core game and make it even more fun with each iteration. I still wonder how many years the series has left. My collection of plastic toys is so large I can’t keep track of which ones are upgraded or need more gold.
Ken McKown · Oct 10, 2014 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - The combination of portal interaction, plethora of characters and development, along with an extensive amount of content with high production values puts it almost in a league of its own. The high cost barrier to entry will certainly be off-putting for some, but folks that invest will end up with an experience that matches and even exceeds that of its console siblings (due to the portable nature of the system). It’s certainly worth checking out the free demo to see if it’s worth the cost, but in my opinion it certainly is.
Eric Ford · Oct 10, 2014 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - While not without its questionable qualities — expect to pay $120 to get something approaching an optimal play experience — Skylanders: Trap Team continues the series' tradition of catering to kids by treating them with respect. And the new trapping gimmick more than justifies itself through the flexibility it offers... not to mention the amusing and diverse role it gives the game's villains.
