- If I said there weren’t times while playing the new early access Skate when I found myself hooked on clearing a task or engaged in executing an impromptu line I’d challenged myself to make, I’d be lying.
Luke Reilly · Sep 24, 2025 Reviewed on PCRead full review - A thrilling, stylish skateboarding experience that balances freedom, challenge, and realism, rewarding skillful exploration and creativity.
Wasbir Sadat · Sep 17, 2025 Reviewed on PCRead full review - After almost ten years of domination by the Tony Hawk franchise, skateboarding has a chance to be reinvented by EA's Skate. It does skating differently. It does skating brilliantly. It does skating better than Tony has for a while.
Dan Amrich · Jun 24, 2012 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - Not only are the controls and attributes of the gameplay itself consistently representative of the chosen sport, but everything from the gloriously dynamic soundtrack and the competition commentary through to the selection of legendry skaters and the division of challenges into schools of skating hits the nail on the head with prowess. If you own a skateboard, get this game. If you don't, get this game and get a board, because this is not one to miss. Finally skating has its Pro Evo and the Hawk has a reason to ruffle its feathers.
Will Freeman · Sep 26, 2007 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - While Skate has a handful of issues that hold it back, it has an absolute ton of potential. It's a great first start for what hopefully will become a regular franchise. With some more refinement and a few more things to do, this could probably be the best skateboarding game around. It's definitely worth playing, if only to get your hands on the trick system, but if you're stingy with your money, you could probably get enough out of it with a rental.
Jeff Gerstmann · Sep 17, 2007 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - Your enjoyment while playing skate will be directly proportional to how you play it. If you attempt to plow through the goals you’re going to come across a few of them that will get your blood boiling, and there’s an incredibly steep learning curve to overcome. But if you just want to cruise around popping ollies and laying down grinds, or session a spot to squeeze every last line out of it, it’s easily the most realistic representation of the sport yet. Just be sure to play it for the joy, and not for the achievement points.
Game Trailers · Sep 13, 2007 Reviewed on PS3, X360 - Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 was the game that really set the franchise apart from anything before it. It's likely that if there's a sequel to skate, it will be the iteration that defines the franchise. But as a brand new IP, based on an idea that could have completely blown up in EA's face, skate is an amazingly complete experience. Those who choose to relax and skate leisurely -- looking for cool lines and taking on the occasional challenge -- will likely find the most enjoyment. Though there are a few technical issues that can become frustrating (curse you load times!), the end product is a blast.
Hilary Goldstein · Sep 07, 2007 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - The value of skate really depends on how much you want to get out of it. I have spent hours upon hours just skating around the city. Combine this with the multiplayer online options and the ability to make, edit, and share videos of your tricks, and you have an amazing amount of gaming available to you for $60 if you want it. My only issue with the game was that the online multiplayer was fairly laggy, and the animations of the other players’ characters were so jumpy it looks like a slideshow of a skater instead of a video game.
Karl Koebke · May 21, 2008 Reviewed onRead full review - You could question the game's difficulty, the lacklustre character customisation and, indeed, several of the tasks. But to do so would be to do Skate wrong, as while it does occasionally hit a bum note, it does so many things absolutely perfectly that it'd be criminal to dwell on shortcomings for too long. Punishingly difficult but ultimately rewarding, games of Skate's caliber are a rare breed and as far as first attempts go, it's been years since we saw one this accomplished. Just... sick, man.
