  • Civilisation VI is very much a marmite kind of game – you’ll either love it or hate it. While I am indeed a fan (of marmite and Civ), I did feel slightly let down by the laggy performance and seemingly slower pace than I remember. The wonderful aesthetics manage to make up for this to a degree though, and if you’re after something to sink some real time into the Civ VI will absolutely be your cup of tea.

  • Although it doesn’t include all the PC game’s extra content, Civ VI comes to the PS4 and Xbox with both the Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm expansions and the latter in particular is a literal game changer. I can certainly imagine using Civ VI as an engaging educational tool to consider the many competing forces around climate change. That sounds dreary. Of course, Civilization VI on PS4 remains what it has always been: addictive, accessible and fun.

  • Civilization VI is an excellent strategy game that offers numerous ways to play, and all of them are viable options. You can lead a peaceful nation or a war-mongering empire and still have an engrossing and rewarding experience like few others on PS4. Excessive load times, grating music, and some occasionally irksome controls are the only real downsides to what is otherwise the system's best strategy game, and a title that strategy fans can scarcely afford to skip.

  • Basically, if you enjoy 4X games or are a Civilization fan, you have to pick this up. But you didn’t need me to tell you that. It’s already on your list and Sid Meier’s Civilization VI is already in the download queue. If it’s not, you’ve got time right now to remedy that.

  • Civilization VI on consoles is basically the same game that you can play on PC.  While the controls will take a little bit of getting used to, this is one of the best strategy games you can get at the moment and it’s finally available on consoles with very few, if any, sacrifices.

  • Civilization is finally back on consoles and boy is it still bloody fun to play. With plenty of new systems to get your head around, some fairly intuitive controls and the ability to wage war on your neighbours because they look at you funny, who can possibly say no to that?

  • Civilization VI has been one of the most demanding experiences I’ve ever played and while the barrier to entry will be intimidating to newcomers, it’s a game that rewards those willing to put in the time. You wouldn’t think a PC series would work so well on the Nintendo Switch but Firaxis has accomplished quite the feat and delivered one of the strongest third-party offerings the console has seen.

  • The biggest dealbreaker in Civ 6 on the Switch is probably that it doesn’t have pass-and-play couch multiplayer, which feels like a big missed opportunity. Online and local multi-console matches can be done, but you won’t be getting competitive in “hot seat mode” as you can in pretty much every other rendition of the series. Even the iOS version has this available, and seems really random that it’s missing here.

  • The Switch is slowly getting a whole pantheon of great ports of everything from indie hits to old PC frontrunners and Civilization VI is another proud example of just that. While the lack of the extra goodies that are on the PC is irksome, it is far from a deal breaker. The civilizations and the gameplay that is in this version of the game is still more than enough to keep you satisfied for a long, long while. Just don’t hog the bathroom all the time.

  • Civilization VI on Nintendo Switch wasn’t something anyone saw coming. Yet now after playing it, I can’t imagine a better fit. The “one more turn” philosophy meshes perfectly with the Switch’s pick up and play handheld potential. Plus with performance that arguably plays better than an equivalent PC and full touch screen controls in addition to a not awful game pad, this is another third-party win for the Switch.
