  • Providing you with a campaign that takes around 15 hours to complete plus multiple difficulties, collectibles and a Survival mode to further extend your playing time, you’re getting a lot of Wang for your buck. It may not be the best looking title, but it more than makes up for it by being a whole heap of fun and quite possibly one of the best first person shooters in years.

Shadow Warrior is a lot better than it deserves to be, and despite its repetitive nature, I couldn’t stop playing it (again). There is just something addictive about the combat, plus Lo Wang remains humorous and there are tons of secrets, including pasted in areas from the original game. Fans of the original should definitely not miss this, and those who still love the twitch feel of old-school PC FPS should definitely give it a whirl.

  • Shadow Warrior is more than just puerile jokes and demons – there are some quite interesting technical faults in there as well. The personality of the game is enough to recommend to those that enjoy old-school shooters, but it comes with a warning: Wang should probably be taken in small doses.

  • Between the game’s graphics, gameplay, and $40 price tag, Shadow Warrior is a definite buy. It offers hours of gory, hack-and-slash fighting, and focuses on just being a really fun game. If you are looking for developed characters or a story you can really get into, Shadow Warrior might not be for you. But, if you just want to kill hordes of enemies in brutal ways, you should probably pick up a copy.

  • Even though Shadow Warrior has minor technical imperfections and runs about two hours too long, it’s nothing short of a blast. ...First-person katana gameplay is even more fun than it sounds, and the constant hordes of demons flooding the screen provide a suitable challenge. Shadow Warrior‘s three-tiered customization system increases its depth without making things too confusing, making it more than just a simple button-masher.

  • A wonderful throwback to the 90s shooter, Shadow Warrior is a fine remake that doesn't purport to offer anything more than a rip-roaring blast through hordes of demons. Shadow Warrior is bloody, wilfully daft and rather brilliant.

  • Wrap it all up and you’ve got a goofy, light-hearted adventure with lots of action and smirk-inducing character chemistry. This is as close as we’ll ever get to a video game version of Big Trouble in Little China, which you should understand is a huge compliment. There’s a gritty, punk spirit here that I haven’t seen since No More Heroes. As such, Shadow Warrior is more than a victory for fans of the original, but a spiritual rebirth of what made games of that era so fun in the first place.

  • This failure to follow through is Shadow Warrior's biggest problem. As a throwback revival, Shadow Warrior lives up to the minimal expectations all but the most die-hard old-school PC shooter fans might have for what it should be. But when Shadow Warrior is less content to settle and reaches for more with its swordplay, its boss battles, and its story of cross-dimensional family infighting, it flirts with something much more often enough to make clearing a lower bar seem insufficient.

  • Shadow Warrior is a great game, and, like Rise of the Triad before it, proves that the '90s era of first-person shooters can still make it in today's world. The weapons pack a punch, the graphics are great, and the personality is top-notch. Hell, there are even a few dick jokes here and there! I know you've missed those.

  • So in the end does Shadow Warrior live up to the original game? In my opinion it most certainly does. Is it far from a perfect experience but it is great fun for anyone who enjoys shooters or merely slashing away with a katana sword. Fans of 80’s action movies will unquestionably appreciate what Shadow Warrior has to offer. In the end, I highly recommend this game for anyone looking for a blast from the past.
