  • Shadow Warrior 3 does little to reinvigorate the Shadow Warrior series. A scant campaign, downright bad narrative, obnoxious voice acting, and generally derivative new gameplay mechanics do little to set this entry apart from other FPS titles. However, combat is, as always, incredibly satisfying, and probably worth enjoying at least once.

  • If anything, getting the definitive edition is something that first-time Shadow Warrior 3 players should do, as otherwise, the new title doesn’t bring too many exciting upgrades. The replayability barely exists, and if you’ve already completed the campaign, it’s hard to believe you’d ever start it again.

  • In all, Shadow Warrior 3 is a fun game with a few minor issues that may not even be issues depending on the player. The game is also receiving constant support, with a Definitive Edition next-gen upgraded release that is free to anyone that already owns Shadow Warrior 3 and will be available at a discounted price for anyone interested in the fast-paced combat that Lo Wang specializes in.

  • The Definitive Edition gives players more to do and allows them to go back to their favorite parts of the game. In addition, it brings a higher quality of the game to current-gen consoles. As far as Definite Editions go, Shadow Warrior 3 does a solid job in implementation.

  • As it stands, Shadow Warrior 3 is a fine game, and the Definitive Edition will be a welcome upgrade to owners of the original console versions, but it only manages to meet expectations while also running it under a track of abrasive banter. It’s like playing skeeball while the fire alarms keep going off.

  • Shadow Warrior lacks the power fantasy of a game like Doom and it becomes a shortcoming with the size of mobs and the amount of damage each enemy can do. The enemies are also almost all bullet sponges, so you’ll find yourself out of ammo in your favorite guns most of the time.

  • While it is appreciated that Flying Wild Hog has addressed many of the concerns surrounding Shadow Warrior 3 and even added a bit more content, there isn’t a justified reason to repackage the entire game into a Definitive Edition. Can’t complain though, because it’s still a fun time with Lo Wang and best of all, it’s free for existing owners!

Shadow Warrior 3 ends up being just ‘ok’ in the grand scheme of things and especially in comparison to the games around it. Lo Wang deserves better and if the fates will it we will get to hang out with our pal Wang again soon.

  • Shadow Warrior 3's new model provides a few modest advantages, they're outweighed by the many exclusions such as fewer weapons, more uncomplicated gameplay, a more linear universe, and a far too small adventure. It's a bizarre and unexpected turn backward for a series that everyone previously appreciated so much.

  • Overall, if you are a fan of the previous adventures in the Shadow Warrior rebooted series then you’re going to be a fan of this one too. As I said before the story doesn’t feel quite as impressive this time around but with some incredible action, some over-the-top yet satisfying set pieces and even more of the dirty humour to pull us through once more, this adventure with Lo Wang is certainly another we should be happy with, even if it is a little wackier than normal.

    About the game

Fallen corporate shogun Lo Wang and his former employer turned nemesis turned sidekick Orochi Zilla embark on an improbable mission to recapture an ancient dragon they unwillingly unleashed from its eternal prison. Armed with a punishing mix of blades and bullets, Lo Wang must traverse uncharted parts of the world to track down the dark beast and push the apocalypse back yet again. All it will take is the mask of a dead god, a dragon's egg, a touch of magic, and enough firepower to hold off the impending cataclysm.
