- Ultimately, Screamride is an original and entertaining puzzle game that packs some great modes and a good sense of humor. When you take into consideration the fact that there's already a huge amount of user-generated content to try, and you've got a sandbox building mode that offers massive scope for creativity, you have a really fun game that packs plenty of lasting appeal for those who love its premise.
Jaz Rignall · Mar 19, 2015 Reviewed on XB1 - Screamride feels like the scraps from several other projects forced together into an incohesive whole. The creation tools and destruction technology on display here belong in a larger theme park simulation, and the gameplay that replaces that simulation is forgettable fluff. Even though you could buy the game in stores, it doesn’t much feel like a full retail release, as the threadbare narrative goes nowhere and repeats itself constantly. Technical hitches in the background are plentiful enough that it’s easy to forget that this is a first party title.
Alex Santa Maria · Mar 04, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - In the end, ScreamRide was a pleasant surprise for me. As a fan of the Rollercoaster Tycoon series, it was a nice change to create something without having to worry about all the park management aspects that might come with it. Sometimes you just want to build, or destroy; ScreamRide lets you do both.
Matt Liebl · Mar 04, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - With all that said the biggest question on everyone’s mind is whether this package is worth $40. yes this is not a small download title, it is clocking in at retail, disc and all. $40 may seem steep, but the content justifies the price tag, players should just know if that content is something they want to invest in. The demo gives access to all three types of game play, and if players enjoy that, then a purchase is certainly worth it.
Ken McKown · Mar 03, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - The absence of the obsessive management elements that have defined the coaster genre for more than a decade may alienate some fans longing for a return to that kind of form. But behind all that is a game that succeeds really well at the game part, using next-gen tech for something other than a flashier presentation. The result is a little uneven, but ScreamRide still ends up as one of the first great surprises of 2015.
Arthur Gies · Mar 03, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - The driving loses its appeal quickly, coaster creation stages become dull, and the destruction is only fun while it lasts. As a downloadable £15 game some of these issues could have been easily overlooked, but at double that price it's a harder ride to sell.
Tom Orry · Mar 03, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - ScreamRide surprised me in a lot of ways. What I thought would be a first-person coaster simulator, and nothing more, turned into a complex and engaging little game, letting me express both my creative and my destructive sides in one fell swoop. There's not much meat on this bone outside of the Sandbox creation mode, but once a player gets acclimated with building a coaster the lack of other major features won't matter much.
Jason Fanelli · Mar 03, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - ScreamRide delivers an interesting and exciting mix of high-speed thrills with some fun destruction puzzle elements thrown in for good measure. What we really need to keep an eye out for, however, is how the community will shape up after launch.
Jorge Jimenez · Mar 03, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Being hailed as a spiritual successor to a fan favorite franchise can often be a tall order to live up to, but Screamride does an exceptional job at maintaining some of the core elements while branching out in many new directions as well. Sandbox preserves the classic rollercoaster building element for the purists, while Screamrider and Demolition Expert add something that is bound to attract a wider audience. While held back by the Xbox 360 version graphically, Screamride does a wonderful job at simulating a fantastical theme park experience that will bring out the kid in everyone.
Dean James · Mar 03, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - I had a lot more fun playing ScreamRide than I thought I would have. For the asking price, you get a solid amount of fun, varied gameplay, and solid audio to top it off. The only thing that can drag this game down is the camera controls at times, and some issues with aiming in Demolition mode, but these issues could well be tweaked later on. So strap yourself in and hang on, because it’s going to be a wild ride!
