Solving the obscure puzzles of Scholar's Mate can be troublesome enough, and so when you also add in a pursuer and limited stealth mechanics, you're left with an experience that is generally unrewarding and frustrating.

Si quieres pasar un buen rato de miedo en Halloween y resolver puzzles estilo Escape Room, pero intuitivos en compañía y eres de los que lo pasa mal con los juegos de terror, quizá esta propuesta algo light de Jandusoft sea para ti, pero para los que buscan una experiencia hardcore llena de jump scares, se llevarán una decepción.

An earnest effort at recreating the puzzling contraptions of an escape room mixed with an Outlast-like antagonist, Scholar’s Mate falls victim to the most insipid storytelling, boring gameplay and obtuse puzzles. While it may look the part of a horror game, the only true terror will stem from the fact you could have just gone to a real escape room, and gotten more value for your money.

Scholar’s Mate feels of a higher standard than many other games in the survival horror genre. Much of this is due to the excellent sound design and some great puzzles. The constant ‘hunt’ does get a bit wearing after a while, a bit too relentless, too easy to die. But if you want a bit of tension in your gaming, something that is capable of raising your blood pressure, then Scholar’s Mate could be a nice bit of medicine.

Scholar's Mate puts you in a cramped scenario filled with pursuit and hard escape room puzzles to solve. While this sounds good, this game may not be for everyone, Pacing can feel uneven, and the constant pursuit can be aggravating when trying to solve multiple puzzles. Still, there's something fun here for horror fans and puzzle lovers, especially since the game only asks for $12.99.

Scholar’s Mate cumpre muito bem o que se propõe a fazer. Obviamente, existem os riscos de um game curto e baseado em puzzles, como a ausência total de fator replay, mas nos termos de desafios, visuais e imersão é tudo bastante agradável. O game é recomendado para quem curte esse estilo e procura aventuras com elementos originais. Além disso, ele possui uma platina bem fácil; algo que pode agradar os caçadores de troféus.
