- Scarlet Nexus is an enjoyable, polished action RPG, but despite its interesting concepts and setting, it all feels a bit stunted. An intriguing plot is hampered by sloppy storytelling, and the combat system is good fun, but it loses its edge long before the credits roll.

The consistent evolution, polished control scheme, and powerful feedback make each fight more satisfying than the last. If only the game had managed to incorporate a stronger story, more depth to its character bonds, and more things to do outside of combat, Scarlet Nexus could have been something special.

The story might get too complicated for its own good, but the characters keep things interesting. Having to revisit the same environments multiple times can get tedious, but the combat is enjoyable throughout due to the new abilities afforded to you by the constant leveling and party member changes. It is a fun romp overall, with enough of a reason to revisit it after completion. Scarlet Nexus is a game that anime fans will thoroughly enjoy.

While the game does offer a lot of side-content with its bonding sequences, it remains fairly linear and offers every type of player a fun experience. Arguably, those looking for deep and engaging mechanics, including expansive side quests, will be somewhat let down.

You hunt monsters, make yourself and your allies stronger, gather resources for making new cosmetics and gear, constantly unlock new features for inside and outside of combat, all that while you watch an interesting story materialize in front of your eyes. It really is a modernized, old-school adventure which will satisfy anyone, even with the few drawbacks it has and the rather slow beginning.

The story, animation, gameplay, and setting prove that Scarlet Nexus has what it takes to become a new tipping point for Bandai Namco to outdo other JRPG titles. I highly recommend players to play the demo first, then if they are satisfied, get the full version of the game. Scarlet Nexus will definitely open a new way of playing JRPG games and will open up a series of unique challenges that will shatter gamers’ perceptions of how to end a game.
