- Though Samurai Warriors 4 isn’t the most polished game out there, it is a hell of a lot of fun. The new features add some much needed change to the games system and Chronicle mode is engaging and fun. Unfortunately I was unable to check out the cooperative mode in the game, but co-op play in any of the Warriors games is always a good time. It is playable locally on one console or through online play too.
Daniel Kozlowski · Nov 04, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - I’m warming up to the Musou games more than I thought I would. I enjoyed Dynasty Warriors 8, and now I find myself a rather big fan of Samurai Warriors 4. It does some things I haven’t seen in the genre yet, and while simplistic, it utilizes these mechanics to make for a more strategic feeling game.
Drew Leachman · Oct 29, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Normally, this is the part where I say fans of the series will enjoy Samurai Warriors 4, but I feel it does enough to create a broader appeal than some other Warriors titles. Nothing about the game stands out as particularly amazing, but it partially masks its issues with a content-heavy package and the noteworthy Chronicle mode. Players who can withstand repetition and enjoy ridiculous 1000+ hit combos will likely appreciate the experience Samurai Warriors 4 provides.
Anthony LaBella · Oct 28, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Overall Samurai Warriors 4 sounds traditionally Japanese, and that helps take you back to the era. As is probably pretty evident by this point, if you’re a fan of the Warriors games, you should definitely pick up Samurai Warriors 4. ...You can even learn a surprising thing or two about Japanese history in the process! While the combat can get repetitive, cranking up the difficulty and playing with lower-level characters can be a sure-fire way to keep the challenge up.
Paulmichael Contreras · Oct 28, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Great things were expected of Samurai Warriors 4 and, thankfully, the sequel has delivered on a number of levels. Though it still carries the same old Musou blueprint, and so there’s little to draw in those who dislike its particular brand of hack n’ slash action, there are enough changes to attract any self-respecting fan of the series.
Jim Hargreaves · Oct 24, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Samurai Warriors 4 is the best entry into the franchise, and is the one most mechanically sound Warriors title available, but there are still some drawbacks. ...Fortunately, while the combat system can be a bit repetitive, it’s still overly satisfying to cut through thousands of enemies within the course of ten minutes. Throw in two-player cooperative play and there’s amusement for hours on end. If you can put up with the grind, Samurai Warriors 4 is well worth your time.
Adam Beck · Oct 24, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - With 55 characters, multiple Story modes, Free mode, and Chronicle mode, there's hours and hours to get through here. Unlocking and leveling, forging weapons using gems, there's loads to play with. Fans will be spending a lot of time on this one, that's for damn sure. ...Samurai Warriors 4 is a faster, greatly expanded addition to the series. Each character feels fresher, and there's a ton of stuff to do. I just wish the online play would actually be something acceptable for the modern day.
Jim Sterling · Oct 23, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Samurai Warriors 4 suffers from the same pratfalls as the rest of the Warriors series on occasion, but the strong offering of content and robust Chronicle mode will keep you interested for quite a while. If you have a friend available to play with locally or online as well, you can expect to play even longer.
Chris Carter · Oct 21, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Bursting back onto Sony platforms with a vengeance, Samurai Warriors 4 cuts down Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends Complete Edition and KOs Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate. Boasting a superb story mode, a delightful cast, and countless improvements to the Warriors formula, musou fanatics shouldn't even blink before buying. Move over Lu Bu, the Demon King won't be beaten any time soon.
Robert Ramsey · Oct 21, 2014 Reviewed on PS4, VitaRead full review - Samurai Warriors 4 is likeable but not loveable. There’s an illusion of depth here, but overall this just makes it more frustrating when you realise it’s as deep as a puddle. If you’re a fan of the series you could add another point on, but for outsiders there isn’t enough here to convince them to try again.
