  • Resident Evil 4 on the PSVR2 is a wholly other experience from its third-person brethren. The shift to first-person mixed with unrivaled graphical details helps to make this PSVR2 game one of the more real and terrifying experiences in VR to date. While there are blemishes in the game’s polish, it’s still representing the original title very well.

  • Resident Evil 4 is a fantastic game no matter what you play it on, but the jump to VR has a few issues. The controls feel good in a vacuum, but certain options will make the game exponentially harder. If you’re someone who doesn’t get sick in VR, this is one of the best titles on the platform.

  • More than just a fantastic killer app for the Oculus Quest 2, Resident Evil 4 VR is a killer app for virtual reality in general. Unlike Half-Life Alyx, this is a phenomenal shooter available on the cheapest, most readily available, and most comfortable VR system in the market. It features everything you have always loved from Resident Evil 4, but in a brand new perspective that turns what was already fun and immersive into something even more intense and memorable.

  • Overall, the transition of Resident Evil 4 to VR is a triumphant affair. Seeing iconic locations brought to full-scale VR life is not only a wonderful nostalgia blast but the conversion injects new life into arguably the best Resident Evil game. Fighting off the hordes of Ganados of Pueblo and the other villains of the Los Illuminados, as they get right in your face, is a gaming treat all players should experience.

  • Resident Evil 4 VR supports a limited normal movement mode and comfort mode. Comfort mode is essentially point and click, letting Leon leap forward by several feet without you having to deal with movement. Normal movement mode is a bit intense unless you’re used to VR motion already, though even that has a slight blemish.

  • Resident Evil 4 VR is a brilliant reimagining of a classic favorite. Easily the most dynamic of any Resident Evil 4 port, Leon can shoot, reload and heal while on the run, making for a thrilling survival horror experience.

  • RE4VR is an essential game to have in your Oculus Quest 2 library, right alongside Beat Saber and Superhot. It is a welcoming version to newcomers that are VR-capable, and, most excitingly, not only will new players get to experience RE4 in a new way that doesn't compromise the original's greatness (and even its quirks), but a new generation of players will get to hear Leon S. Kennedy's campy one-liners. And that's a prospect I'm very excited about.

Resident Evil 4 VR is a breath of fresh air for one of the most ported entries in Capcom's long-running series. While the game is missing modes like Separate Ways or The Mercenaries, Armature has crafted one of the best versions of Resident Evil 4 to date.

  • Resident Evil 4 has fantastic side modes, and evolved mercenaries into a fully-fledged game and mode for future iterations beyond what the series had done with it in the past. With all of the side content intact, I would have given this VR port a 10. Of note, the merchant shooting range minigame, both in-world and via menus, is still intact.

  • Resident Evil 4 VR is one of the most surprising delights of my entire year. Every part of the base game is here, and it all fits and feels right. Every bit of the schlock, fear, and intensity is joined by a well-thought-out array of VR gunplay, puzzle-solving, melee, and other satisfying interactions. Resident Evil 4 is one of the absolute high points of the entire franchise.
