Perhaps it needed a few more months of development time to work out the bugs and maybe have a better optimized stealth mechanic, but I don’t think we’ll ever know. There is some complexity to the story and some decent atmosphere, but it takes a lot to actually get into it. If you’re invested in the series, this is a maybe, but if you’re looking for a horror stealth game, there are others to just play much better.

  • Remothered: Broken Porcelain has its graphics going for it. Some of the story is also nice to follow, while it’s mostly chaotic and lacking focus. The sound seems rehashed quickly and the gameplay is actually too poor to really be enjoyable. The most enjoyable while playing is running around to get to the next part of the story, but every other element is frustrating if anything.

  • Make no mistake, you will fall and fumble through the game but if you endure it all just like troubled Jennifer herself, you will get a glimpse of something true and beautiful in Remothered’s warped and flawed world. This one is only for acquired tastes but its bittersweet flavor has a faint bouquet of organic blossom.

  • Remothered: Broken Porcelain needs much patching in order to be even considered playable. With unresponsive controls, frame rate issues, texture pop-ins, and etc., this game comes off far more frustrating to play than it is scary.

  • Remothered: Broken Porcelain’s striking visuals and outstanding sound design can’t disguise the repetitive, mundane survival horror game lurking underneath.

  • Maybe the writing is good? The voice acting? The visuals? Nope. Remothered: Broken Porcelain looks awkward, the writing is weak and the voice acting… actually the some of the voice acting is alright. So, at least it has one redeeming quality, otherwise, this one is a hard pass.

  • The story is excellent and will stick with me for years to come. It’s just a shame that for everything the game does right when it comes to its gameplay and storytelling, a severe lack of polish and poor optimization never fail to emerge from the shadows to murder any hopes you had of having a good time.

  • The aesthetic of the game works when it comes to the score and the setting of the snow-covered Inn, but the voice acting and models for the characters will rip you out of any sense of tension or dread, simply because the monsters will often look more comical than terrifying. The voice acting itself often runs into the problem of having to quickly unleash a bevy of exposition with little to no time to build up a character, making the proceedings seem rushed as a result. Character models' mouths won't move when dialogue is delivered, things will glitch out of frame, and the game will stall at random times as you feel like you're battling every aspect of it. In order to get to the scares, Broken Porcelain moves at breakneck speeds past character development which makes it impossible to capitalize on the spooky nature that they are trying to convey.

  • Remothered: Broken Porcelain is a textbook example of a bad horror sequel that mostly sticks to its predecessor’s formula, without really understanding what made it work. Between a jumbled story, shortage of tension, annoying new mechanics, and a flagrant lack of polish, Broken Porcelain in a follow up only a mother could love.

  • Remothered: Broken Porcelain might be the new horror story driven game this Halloween! With high end visuals and continual story to boot we can only hope new and greater things will come of the series. Remothered deserves to sit along some of the genres best, and Broken Porcelain makes for a fine sequel – here’s hoping the wait isn’t too long for the next entry!
