- Ravenbound is a game filled to the brim with unique ideas. It marries the open world and roguelike/lites genres in an interesting way, but doesn’t quite hit the mark, and feels incomplete at almost every step. The open world feels unnecessarily massive, but with very little to do. It’s also filled with annoying bugs. It’s a shame because the concept and combat are surprisingly strong, making this misstep hurt even more.
Kyle Nicol · Apr 16, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - While Ravenbound has a great story and a few good features on the mechanics front, it still needs some improvement. What would help this game shine would be a world overhaul with a randomly generated terrain to keep things interesting and possibly a few minor quality-of-life improvements. While these flaws can take away from the overall experience, Ravenbound does have a lot of potentials to go far.
Jay Claassen · Apr 06, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Ravenbound comes across as an internal playtest version of an unreleased upcoming game. The barren open-world, the clunky and bugged game mechanics, and rampant balancing issues, makes the game feel like it's not ready for Early Access, let alone the full launch it's been given.
Dan Lenois · Apr 05, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Ravenbound is a highly ambiguous game that fully allows players to explore its vast ever-changing landscape. Despite its ambition, the game lacks refinement and makes the game feel underbaked and not fully developed.
DShelley · Apr 05, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Ravenbound comes up with some very interesting ideas and the progression system based on cards works pretty well. Unfortunately, some of the other gameplay systems that complement the game’s roguelite traits aren’t as enjoyable as I expected.
Cosmin Vasile · Apr 03, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - All of these things result in an experience that is tedious, unrewarding, and it leads to a waste of an aesthetically beautiful open-world by giving players no reason to explore it as there's nothing to gain by doing so. Other mechanics like the risk/reward Hatred chests attempt to vary things, but it's painfully easy to use them without suffering any consequences. Ravenbound is a game that should be fun and addicting, but poor optimization and design decisions have had the exact opposite effect.
Jacob Zeranko · Apr 02, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Thankfully, the captivating setting and exhilarating gameplay more than make up for these technical trolls. With its unique blend of intense combat, engaging progression mechanics, and a richly detailed world, Ravenbound feels like it's carving out its own niche in the roguelike genre.
Steven Weber · Mar 30, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Ravenbound could still very well live up to its potential as a rogue-lite-hack-and-slash-meets-3D-open-world. However, its combat, world design, enemy variety, Hatred system, towns, NPCs, performance, environmental effects and more still need some serious work, and that’s before adding any new mechanics or variety to the gameplay.
Ravi Sinha · Mar 30, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Ravenbound is full of janky controls, clunky combat and movement that’s a few frames short of smooth. For all its importance to traversing the world, controlling the raven in flight can be frustrating and imprecise. Instead of slagging on every issue, let’s just say that the visuals and character design — especially humans — are simply areas in which Ravenbound most feels like a lower-budget game.
Mark Steighner · Mar 30, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The attempt to mesh open-world gaming with a roguelite structure is admirable, but the emptiness of the former undermines the potential of the latter, resulting in a combat system spread too thinly across a canvas that's too large.
