Critic Reviews
- There are different weapons that you can purchase as you collect coins from fallen foes, and these add some much-needed variety to the samey combat. Boss fights are built upon simplistic patterns, while new enemy types occasionally give you fresh problems to solve. It’s all largely competent, but its main concept could have been taken much further.
Sammy Barker · Apr 14, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - While Random Heroes may make a decent mobile game, the updated version—Random Heroes: Gold Edition—isn’t really up to par, especially for the asking price of $4.99. It is an excellent example of why some games should stay on mobile devices.
Heath Shusterman-Zimmerman · Apr 14, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Random Heroes: Gold Edition is a simple platform shooter with an easy to medium difficulty. It is very easy to pick up and play with simple controls and a basic storyline. There is a nice variety of characters to play as and guns to use, but this game can be completed quite quickly and some of the levels don’t differ too much from each other. The achievements, however, can be collected quite easy for any hunters out there.
Graham Cameron · Apr 08, 2020 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - The game has fun pixellated graphics braced against an appealing steamish background, and it all comes together well to create an interesting 2D thriller. It is a lot of the same, and this might be a bit of a drawback, but it is not a bad game by any means.
Tre Lawrence · Nov 22, 2013 Reviewed on And - Random Heroes’ exciting catalog of custom characters is not matched by an equal range of ways to enhance and advance....
Claire Donner · Nov 12, 2013 Reviewed on AndRead full review - Random Heroes: Gold Edition certainly has its charms, though chances are it won’t impress those who want an original platformer that pushes the genre in exciting in new directions. That said, it’s a perfect entry point for newcomers.
Todd Rigney · Jun 11, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - In essence, that sums up what Random Heroes: Gold Edition on Xbox One is. All the base elements of the game work fine. They aren’t incredible but they don’t need to be. It is a fairly basic platformer-shooter with some light progression systems. Fundamentally, Random Heroes feels like a game built for mobile devices. It is not in any sense a bad game but it does nothing in a market already filled to the brim with great platformers, even at a similar price range.
