  • Really, it’s the control method that lets Rambo - The Mobile Game down the most. You swipe a finger around at the bottom of the screen in order to dictate which direction you’re going in but it feels awkward, floaty, and inaccurate. You never feel as in control as you’d like to. Instead, you’re floundering through the landscapes, hoping you make it while wondering just why each level feels so longwinded and lacklustre.

  • Overall, as much as I would like to give this game a 2 or a 1, objectively, I can’t. This game isn’t bad per se, it’s just not very good. It does the storyline well, and while it isn’t fun all the way through, the first few levels can be enjoyed if you are a fan of the movies, or a fan of on-rails shooters. The problem with this game is that it is so average. Not so bad it’s good where you can derive enjoyment from making fun of Rambo: The Video Game, just a very mundane experience.

  • Rambo: The Video Game just disappoints, over and over. There are no new power-ups or twists to keep you interested, no memorable boss fights, and no touches that fans of the film will go "ooh" over. The team at Reef could've done a lot more with this, something along the lines of what Sega did with its arcade Rambo game. Instead, they took the easy way out. Go watch the movies instead. All of the thrill, none of the pain, Johnny.

  • Rambo: The Video Game lacks execution. Underpolished, repetitive, and littered with difficulty spikes, it’s a hard-sell to most gamers and even those who adore the Stallone trilogy. Not only that, it highlights just how out-dated the on-rails genre is even today. Since Time Crisis, Point Blank, and House of the Dead, there have been no real change-ups. That probably explains why most have been relegated to seafront arcades and bowling alleys.

  • Although some of these involve moving from quick-time event to quick-time event, you're also given a helping of helicopter missions and an opportunity to use enemies' own tanks against them. While these segments don't last long, they also are neither overused nor overdone, and offer a breather from the game's gauntlet of gun battles.

  • If you want to watch John Rambo mow through waves of baddies in violent and satisfying fashion, watch the final half hour of the 2008 film. Don’t spend your money and time to recreate any moments in this cheap, broken wreck.

  • We’d love to think that there was somebody out there that was desperate to play an on-rails version of the first three Rambo films, and that there’s a reason for this game to exist. Sadly, we suspect that that may just be wishful thinking. It’s more likely, then, that the developers thought that a popular name and a cheap budget would turn a profit – and with a boxed product and the promise of DLC on the way, we imagine that it’ll probably make a fortune.

  • The fact that Rambo: The Video Game is being sold for almost full retail price is insulting, not to mention the fact that it feels mostly unfinished and uninspired. If you need a Rambo fix, you're better off just watching the original trilogy and acting like this never happened.

  • On-rails shooting sections on par with the most forgettable of budget games, and on-rails stealth sections that consist of nothing but QTEs. Sometimes the QTE bits are tossed into the action segments, and there is an utterly appalling turret section that, for some reason, causes the camera to convulse sickeningly. I don't understand it. I don't understand anything about this game.

It’s a B-movie game in every sense, but approach it with sufficiently lowered expectations, and you may just be pleasantly surprised.

    About the game

Locked and loaded with the trademark Rambo arsenal of weapons, you battle through the boss showdowns and take-downs from the films - everything from Rambo’s evading the police in First Blood, to his single, explosive bow strike on Lieutenant Tay in Rambo First Blood Part II, and on to his shredding Russian helicopters with the DShK 12.7mm Heavy Machine Gun in Rambo III.
