- While I did enjoy Rain World for the art style and gameplay, I was bothered by the level design, to the point of boredom. While I don’t mind an open-world setting, I just wish that there was a clearer goal to where I was going. While I found myself coming up with clever tricks to get around obstacles, and enjoying the beautiful vistas, I just can’t see myself wanting to explore this world of torrential rain again any time soon.
Dawson Helton · Jan 23, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The main appeal I saw in Rain World was in its art style and the design of its enemies. Its mechanics need some fine tuning for it to be the masterpiece it has the potential to be. If you’re looking for a game that’ll really try your patience and give you a good challenge, then I’d absolutely recommend adding this to your library. Otherwise, I’d recommend you look elsewhere.
Matthew Olivo · Jan 17, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - If you're looking for a slightly different 2D platformer that provides a challenge then Rain World is a great fit for the modest price of $19.99. As a side note, the game does offer a Multiplayer Arena mode for up to 4 players, featuring Competitive and Sandbox modes. Unfortunately, I was unable to take part in this. It looks like this mode also allows you to select your “playing” field from environments seen in the single-player mode.
Scott Jeslis · Jan 04, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The resurgence is going to be good for the few who play it, but I think it will probably still be criminally overlooked. Even those that start it might not see it all the way through, but I implore you to do so. This is a cold and loving game that is far more than most people realise. It is worthy of both your attention and your time. It thoroughly deserves this second chance and I hope that people make the most of it. Also, I want a Slugcat now.
Jason Coles · Dec 22, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - All in all, Rain World is as beautiful to look at as it’s frustrating to play. People who value challenge and beating the odds above all else will surely meet their match here. For everyone else, you may want to be careful as Rain World is surely a hard game, but fairness is not its thing.
Luigi Savinelli · Apr 08, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - In Rain World, the spectre of failure, often caused by events you can't control, lingers heavily. It quickly drives home the point that you're a foreigner in a ruined land where anyone larger than you wants to eat you. Its stunningly detailed backgrounds and few rewarding gameplay opportunities are vastly outweighed by its platforming imperfections and hibernation mechanic, which makes little sense in its connection to accessing new areas.
Miguel Concepcion · Mar 31, 2017 Reviewed on PC, PS4Read full review - A prey animal destined to melt in the jaws of a monsoon. Perhaps with time and tolerance, more dedicated gamers than me will finish this title. Some other kind souls will find the patience to guide this missing link and their kin to salvation. Make no mistake, this is a beautiful world. Just know that it is also a merciless one.
James Paley · Mar 29, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - I feel so badly for this game in a way. It seems so close to being something special and wonderful, but is just undermined at every turn by baffling design choices, poor controls, and frustration. Maybe some of these issues will be addressed in a future patch and Rain World will become the game it feels like it should have been.
Nic Rowen · Mar 28, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - I wanted to love Rain World, I really did, but in the end I couldn’t. Although it starts out strong, and boasts a variety of unique gameplay features, it ends up coming out a bit muddled due to the abusive limits it places on players and overbearing confusion. It’s challenging, but a lot of that feels artificial – and I’m just not into that kind of thing. I don’t think that Rain World is bad. If you’re in the market for something new, something visually appealing, or want something that seems to be hard just for the sake of being hard, then check it out. Other than that, well, maybe Rain World shouldn’t be your first choice.
Kenny McKee · Mar 27, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Rain World is a maddening thing, because of quite how special it could have been. Beautiful environments, incredible animations and enticingly hazy mechanics are fantastic, but the sheer cruelty of how it’s pieced out to the player transcends challenge and becomes an unwanted trial.

About the game
Trailers & Screenshots:
You are a nomadic slugcat, both predator and prey in a broken ecosystem. Intense, bone-crushing rains pound the surface and make life almost impossible for most of the year, but the dry season has just arrived. Grab your spear and brave the industrial wastes, hunting enough food to survive another hibernation cycle, but be wary— other, bigger creatures have the same plan... and slugcats look delicious.
